Job summary

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Dayton is seeking an experienced Electrician Lead to supervise electricians and incarcerated individuals during installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, and equipment.

You will read blueprints, estimate materials, ensure security compliance, and support telecommunications and data processing systems within an institutional setting. Strong problem solving and time management are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• 18 months training or 18 months experience in electrical work under supervision.
• Six months experience as Electrician 1 or equivalent.
• Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead workers over electricians and incarcerated individuals in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems.
• Install, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical wiring and equipment.
• Determine materials, cost estimates, and purchase requests.
• Read blueprints and maintain inventory of electrical supplies.
• Ensure compliance with security regulations.
• Install and maintain basic telecommunications and/or electronic data processing equipment in institutional setting.
• Attend training and serve on institutional committees.
• Perform security functions as required.
• Other duties as assigned (e.g., snow & ice removal).

What You’ll Do

• Act as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction and training) over lower-level electricians and/or crew and/or incarcerated individuals engaged in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment
• Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment (e.g., motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating and cooling equipment, fire and other alarm/security systems, elevators and switches)
• Determines & completes materials needed, cost estimates, & submit requests to purchase
• Reads blueprints &/or schematic diagrams; maintains inventory of electrical supplies
• Maintains tool count of tools used by incarcerated individuals (e.g., completes tool control forms daily, maintains strict inventory of tools)
• Performs other maintenance &/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., performs semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC)
• Ensures compliance with security regulations
• Installs, troubleshoots, tests, modifies &/or maintains basic telecommunications &/or electronic data processing equipment (e.g., cable television lines; telephone lines; computer/terminal lines; printers; analog /or digital phones) in institutional setting
• Serves on institutional committees
• Attends training, seminars &/or meetings
• Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)
• Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., snow & ice removal & grass cutting).

18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. verifiable exp. in electrical work under supervision of experienced electrician; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & writing common English vocabulary.

• Or 6 mos. exp. as Electrician 1, 52281.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
