Job summary

Wheeling Hospital seeks a qualified Electrician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hospital electrical systems, including critical and emergency power. The role involves supervising maintenance staff, coordinating workflow, and delivering skilled repairs across the facility.

Qualifications

  • VA license: Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician per DPOR.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Five years of experience with electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of hospital electrical systems including distribution, critical power, and emergency power.
  • Supervise facility maintenance workers and coordinate workflow, training, and advising.
  • Provide skilled preventive and corrective repairs throughout the hospital.
  • Report unsecured medications and ensure safety compliance.
  • Maintain department and hospital policies, safety, and infection control.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/Or Licensure:

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Must possess licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
WV:

Journeyman Electrician License, or Master Electrician through the West Virginia State Fire Marshall

MD:

Journeyman Electrician License, or Master Electrician through the Maryland Department of Labor

VA:

Journeyman Electrician License, or Master Electrician through the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation

Valid driver’s license.

Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience with electrical systems.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of all hospital electrical systems to include, normal electrical distribution systems, critical power distribution systems, emergency power distribution systems, fire alarm systems, low voltage and high voltage control systems.
  • Supervises general facility maintenance workers by allocating and coordinating workflow, training, and advising, in more complex electrical repair work throughout the hospital.
  • Provides skilled preventive and corrective repair work throughout the hospital.
  • Has access to, and is responsible for, performing assigned duties in locked medication rooms. This position is aware that they are not responsible for medications, and they should report any unsecured medications to a licensed professional.
  • Maintain established department and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environment, infection and hazardous material control.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb and work off of ladders, scaffolding or electric lifts and operate basic manual cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the Department.
  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with patients, visitors and staff.
