The Electrician role is part of the Construction Team at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). Duties include installation and troubleshooting of various electrical equipment on station-level and future projects approved by management.

Work from plans, read schematics, and use electrical formulas to lay out and install wiring, panels, and related components. The position requires physical effort and occasional exposure to challenging conditions.

The Electrician is assigned to the Construction Team at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). The electrician's duties include installation and troubleshooting of a variety of electrical equipment and systems on station-level projects and future projects approved by management.

Key Responsibilities

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls Interpret basic electronic terms and symbols when reading technical/system diagrams and schematics Apply a variety of electrical formulas, tables, charts, and color codes in order to mount, ground and install wiring and equipment for electrical/electronic systems Determine and place distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections, and installs wiring couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices Interpret and apply state and local building regulations based on the National Electrical Code Trace hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations Perform other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD07912A Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Straight pulling (2 hours); Pulling hand over hand (4 hours); Pushing (4 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (8 hours); Standing (8 hours); Crawling (2 hours); Kneeling (8 hours); Repeated bending (2 hours); Climbing, legs only (2 hours); Climbing, use of legs and arms; Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13\" to 16\" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted); Emotional Mental Stability.

Physical Effort: Repairs and installations are made from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is performed both indoors and outdoors.

The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns,and rotary devices such as electrical motors; and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
