About the Position

The Electrical Testing Engineer is a professional-level role responsible for bridging hands‑on field execution with engineering analysis, documentation, and project coordination. This role expands beyond technician-level responsibilities by taking ownership of testing and commissioning projects from mobilization through final deliverables. The Electrical Testing Engineer supports field execution, develops and reviews technical reports, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and contributes to project planning, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Day in the Life
  • Promotes and upholds a strong safety culture by proactively identifying and mitigating jobsite hazards.
  • Ensures compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA, and company safety standards at all times.
  • Leads by example in safe work practices during all field-testing activities.
  • Performs electrical testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on commercial, industrial, and utility systems.
  • Executes acceptance and maintenance testing on equipment including circuit breakers (LV/MV/HV), transformers, switchgear, cables, motors, CTs, VTs, and protective relays.
  • Operates and maintains test equipment such as insulation resistance testers (Megger), ductors, power factor test sets, hi‑pot testers, CT ratio/saturation equipment, and breaker timing instruments.
  • Supports commissioning activities to validate system readiness prior to energization.
  • Investigates and documents abnormal test results, escalating issues with clear technical rationale.
  • Prepares accurate, professional test reports and commissioning documentation for client deliverables.
  • Compiles, validates, and organizes field data to ensure completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Maintains detailed project records including test forms, equipment data, and calibration documentation.
  • Contributes to the improvement and standardization of reporting processes and tools.
  • Supports planning efforts including scope development, outage coordination, scheduling, and resource alignment.
  • Serves as an on-site coordinator for testing activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution.
  • Communicates project status, risks, and field findings to the Testing Manager and stakeholders.
  • Assists with submittals, RFIs, and internal project documentation.
  • Develops professional relationships with customers through clear communication, sound judgment, technical credibility, and reliable execution.
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding testing results, system conditions, and recommendations.
  • Progresses towards leading field crews and managing small to mid‑sized testing projects.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to Engineering Test Technicians in the field.
  • Supports broader team and organizational initiatives as assigned.
  • Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field (required).
  • NFPA 70E certification (required within 90 days of hire).
  • Valid drivers license and ability to operate company vehicles and tow equipment trailers.
  • 03 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, industrial maintenance, or related field.
  • Additional training in relay testing, PLCs, or instrumentation is a plus and supported.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical power systems and equipment (transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, motors, cables).
  • Familiarity with common electrical test equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications.
  • Exposure to PLC systems, automation, or industrial controls is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications and technical software.
  • Strong electromechanical fundamentals, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to interpret test data, identify anomalies, and clearly communicate findings.
  • Experience with structured problem‑solving methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for customer‑facing deliverables.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to documentation quality.
  • Ability to perform effectively under time‑sensitive outage conditions.
  • Collaborative and team‑oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Comfortable working in industrial and construction environments.
  • Adaptable and responsive to changing project demands and field conditions.
Travel
  • Occasional travel to job sites is required, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
