Job summary

M.C. Dean's ModularMission Critical site, just north of Richmond, VA, seeks a Senior Electrical Test Technician who leads testing programs for electrical power and building control systems. You will work independently on projects or as part of larger teams, ensuring reliable operation and compliance.

You will troubleshoot protective relays, perform Hi-Pot and insulation testing, and coordinate with engineers and operations staff. Travel to duty sites is required as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant electrical experience with a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Strong knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and related equipment.
  • Experience with test equipment including Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard and Fluke meters.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage electrical testing programs for duty sites and act as SME for O&M programs.
  • Train operations staff to operate, monitor and update control systems for efficiency.
  • Assist in SOP development and operator training for MEP control systems.
  • Coordinate CMMS-based scheduling, dispatch, and reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize building SCADA, life safety systems, and related controls.

The Senior Electrical Test Technician 10 works independently on small to medium sized projects or as part of a larger, more complex project. The Senior Electrical Test Technician is responsible for the overall administration, organization, and implementation of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing Electrical Testing Program for duty site and serve as the subject matter expert over the divisions Operation and Maintenance program.
  • Responsible for managing or training operations staff to operate (monitor and control) and update all system (s) control applications maximizing the efficiency of the system being controlled and revising the operating controls as needed to accommodate changes in the facility operations or to correct identified problems/ inefficiencies.
  • Responsible for assisting the development process, methods, standard operating procedures (SOP) and training programs for operators to monitor and control the complex mechanical, electrical, life safety and building control system(s) that comprise the monitor and control.
  • Responsible for assisting the implementation process and procedures set forth using CMMS program to schedule, dispatch, track and report MEP field emergency repair, adjustment, preventive maintenance, and warranty activities.
  • Manages the integration, reliability, and functionality for all the building control system(s) that comprise the mission that include the SCADA, Delta Controls and the Life Safety Systems.
  • Coordinates with the Program Manager while on duty to optimize the performance of monitoring systems and meet the government energy goals.
  • Provides oversight; must be capable of troubleshooting and have the expertise to address operational problems.
  • Assumes supervisory responsibility during electrical testing activities.
  • Assists MEP Operations Manager in developing electrical work and project schedules.
  • Assists in developing and implementing ORM safety procedures and safety meetings. Generate safety reports and maintain related safety records.
  • Trouble shooting, SCADA, Building Management Systems, Relay testing, SKM power systems, ETAP, able to conduct short circuit studies, able to conduct Arc Flash studies.
Qualifications
  • Applicants selected must hold a minimum of 10+ years of relevant electrical experience with a High School Diploma/GED
Expectations Of Expertise & Knowledge
  • NETA / NICET certification (preferred) or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical testing.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment.
  • Experience with test equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, and Fluke meters.
  • Understanding of insulation resistance, power factor, contact resistance, and high-potential (Hi-Pot) testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of medium and high-voltage systems (up to 500kV), including arc flash hazard analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose system failures.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work in industrial, data center, and utility environments.
  • Ability to work safely under minimal supervision and follow industry best practices.
  • Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical power systems, ensuring compliance with NETA standards
  • Conduct protective relay testing, calibration, and programming for various manufacturers.
  • Perform circuit breaker and switchgear testing, including timing tests, primary and secondary injection testing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and perform root cause analysis for system failures.
  • Conduct transformer testing, including turns ratio, insulation resistance, and power factor testing.
  • Ensure adherence to electrical safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and PPE compliance.
  • Maintain detailed test reports and documentation for compliance and client review.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure efficient system commissioning and startup.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior technicians as needed.

  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials.   • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
