Job summary

SpaceXAI is seeking an Electrical Technician to operate and maintain plant electrical systems at our power generation facility. You will work hands-on with medium-voltage equipment up to 34.8 kV, performing switching, troubleshooting, and repairs in a high-reliability plant environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years as electrical technician or industrial electrician maintaining industrial or power generation systems.
• Journeyman license or equivalent training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain plant electrical systems up to 13.5 kV and 34.8 kV.
• Perform switching, isolation, LOTO, and racking of breakers per NFPA 70E.
• Troubleshoot faults on distribution, protection, grounding, and lighting systems.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Power Generation team is seeking an Electrical Technician to operate and maintain plant electrical systems at SpaceX’s power generation facility. You will work hands-on across medium-voltage generation, distribution, and balance-of-plant electrical equipment up to 13.5 kV and 34.8 kV. This is an operations and maintenance role — you will switch, troubleshoot, repair, and keep electrical systems online in a high-reliability, fast-paced plant environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform operations and maintenance on plant electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, motors, VFDs, UPS units, automatic transfer switches, and emergency/black-start equipment, at voltages up to 13.5 kV and 34.8 kV.
• Execute switching, isolation, LOTO, racking of breakers, and restoration of medium-voltage equipment in accordance with plant procedures and NFPA 70E.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults on power distribution, protection, grounding, lighting, and auxiliary systems using one-line diagrams, schematics, and electrical test equipment.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to improve reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Support plant startups, shutdowns, outages, and commissioning activities alongside operators, controls technicians, and engineers.
• Install, terminate, and maintain plant electrical equipment, cable, and control wiring as required for operations and maintenance work.
• Respond to electrical alarms, trips, and equipment failures; support root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, and utility personnel on switching, clearances, and electrical work that affects plant generation.
• Maintain accurate work orders, switching records, and as-found/as-left documentation.
• Follow all safety, LOTO, arc-flash, and PPE requirements while working in energized and hazardous plant environments.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 3+ years of experience as an electrical technician, industrial electrician, or similar role maintaining industrial or power generation electrical systems.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience operating and maintaining medium-voltage electrical systems (4.16 kV to 34.8 kV), including switchgear, transformers, and breakers.
• Experience in a power plant, generating station, or other high-reliability industrial facility.
• Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment O&M manuals.
• Experience with LOTO, switching procedures, and NFPA 70E / arc-flash safety practices.
• Experience troubleshooting motors, VFDs, MCCs, UPS systems, and plant auxiliary electrical equipment.
• Familiarity with electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, infrared, and similar).
• Journeyman electrician license or equivalent formal electrical training.
• Experience using a CMMS or work-order system to plan and close maintenance work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-discipline operations and maintenance team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Willingness to perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights.
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and rotating or on-call schedules to support plant operations.
• Ability to remain focused in hazardous environments while wearing appropriate PPE.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
• Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
• Must be able to work on-site at the power generation facility, with potential travel to other SpaceX sites.
