Job summary

The GBS Group is seeking an Electrical Technician for shipboard machinery control systems (MCS) on US naval platforms. Based in Philadelphia, you will troubleshoot electrical and network control systems, test components in lab environments, and support system repairs using Navy schematics and cut sheets.

The role requires 5+ years in related fields, ability to travel 10%, and eligibility for a Secret level clearance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional experience in electrical and control systems for naval applications.
• Ability to locate and trace faults, measure currents, voltages, resistance, and test for shorts/continuity.
• Knowledge of gas turbine engines, propulsion machinery, control systems and alarm systems.
• Current working knowledge of Navy machinery control systems (MCS) and MCSS or equivalent experience.
• PLC and network system experience; Navy or processing plant experience a plus.
• UPS system knowledge.
• Ability to travel up to 10% for shipboard installations and troubleshooting.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.

MACHINERY CONTROL SYSTEMS (MCS)

The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a lab technician to work on cutting edge ship MCS systems. As an MCS Electrical Technician with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will assist in the development, design, and troubleshooting of MCS system electrical and control systems aboard US Naval Vessels. This will include Direct onsite support, system support and operational demonstration, lab testing and trials, troubleshooting, installation support and coordination. You will work with a dedicated group of fellow engineers and technicians. This position will also contribute real value by assisting other engineers and ships forces with various gas turbine electrical system issues for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Troubleshooting electrical and network control systems.
• Setup and test network control components in a lab environment
• Work in a team environment to complete both hardware and software testing
• Utilization of Navy assessment programs, planning visits to include all required processes and providing detailed reporting of such visits.
• Utilize Microsoft office to develop trip reports and document finding and required repairs. Document hardware with digital photography.
• Interact with team members and subject matter experts to investigate problems and propose solutions.
• Work with system blueprints, schematics and cut sheets to perform system repairs and document.
• Provide ships force with training to assist in system readiness and proper operational awareness.
• Actively participate in meetings and track and report status of assigned work.
  

Qualifications/Requirements:

Candidates for this position should possess 5 or more years professional experience in the following areas:

• Experience with Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and Engineering Operational Sequencing Systems (EOSS).
• Ability to locate and trace circuit faults, replace parts, measure currents, voltages and resistances, test systems for shorts, ground and continuity, test protect circuitry and test and service field sensors.
• Knowledge of intermediate maintenance on electrical components of gas turbine engines, main propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, control systems, printed circuit and alarm systems.
• Current working knowledge of U.S. Navy machinery control systems (MCS) and Machinery control system suites (MCSS) or equivalent powerplant/refinery/chemical plant control system technician experience.
• PLC and network system experience. US Navy or processing plant experience a plus.
• UPS system knowledge
• Ability to work in a test lab environment
• Technical systems support for INSURV/TSRA inspections
• Ability to troubleshoot propulsion and auxiliary control system equipment to include transducers, RTE’s, Thermocouples, signal conditioners, PLC’s, and PC based control systems.
• Ability to travel up to 10% for shipboard installations and troubleshooting.
  
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance. - U.S. Citizenship required.

Physical / Mental Requirements

• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures.
• Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility or ship
• Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend in order to reach all areas of the facility.
• Must be able to work in and on overhead structures, as well as below machinery.
• Requires kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
• Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Basic and advanced math computational skills.
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
