Job summary

MasTec, Inc. is seeking a field technician to perform maintenance and construction around high voltage substations and transmission lines. This role requires extensive domestic travel across the US and a strong safety-first mindset to ensure the job is completed correctly the first time.

You will work around wind turbines, interact with customers, and service electrical systems up to 34.5 kV, while maintaining strict safety protocols and documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, electrical focus preferred.
• 2+ years in electrical maintenance with 1 year related experience or degree/certificate.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically.

Responsibilities

• Work around wind turbines and HV substation equipment on-site.
• Interact professionally with customers and coworkers daily.
• Maintain underground cables, transformers, switchgear, and wind wiring up to 34.5 kV.
• Attend daily safety meetings and complete paperwork.
• Diagnose issues and perform repairs to prevent outages.
• Test electrical components and systems; document results.
• Perform material inventory and prepare reports on testing.
• Operate manlift, forklift, and skid steer as needed.

Overview

Important! THIS ROLE REQUIRES TRAVEL DOMESTICALLY

This position will be responsible for maintenance/construction activities around high voltage (up to 345 kV) substations and transmission lines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a \"safety first\" attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time.

Responsibilities

• Working in and around wind turbines
• Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis
• Ability to perform maintenance/construction on electrical collection systems including underground cable faults, pad-mount transformers, switchgears, T-Bodies, Splices and Wind turbine wiring up to 34.5 kV
• Attend safety meetings and complete safety paperwork on a daily basis
• Demonstrate safety as a top priority
• Complete an inventory of material on a daily/weekly basis
• Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the electrical system to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly
• Troubleshoot and/or test electrical components and systems.
• Service underground transmission systems, substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems
• Replace worn or malfunctioning components

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2 (two) years' experience working in the electrical industry, specifically for preventative maintenance or electrical degree/certificate and 1-year experience
• Valid Driver's License
• MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL DOMESTICALLY

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation
• Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
• Experience using basic power tools
• Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO
• Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
• Comfort working remotely as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public
• Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
• Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
• Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Ability to operate manlift, forklift, and skid steer
• Ability to independently perform line locates, splice cable, perform TTR testing and swap out pad mount transformers
• Ability to perform rigging and signaling to crane operators
• Ability to perform accurate material management
• Ability to independently perform VLF and megger testing, infrared scanning, fault locating, bushing exchanges and battery replacements
• Ability to create concise reports related to testing that the individual or their team has performed
• Ability to implement LOTO and switching plans, provide well thought out project planning
• Ability to interact with clients effectively
• Communicates effectively with others
