Job summary

APTIM is seeking an experienced industrial electrician in Findlay, Ohio to perform a wide range of electrical tasks including building and motor control panels, conduit work, and testing. The ideal candidate reads diagrams, uses hand and power tools, and works independently with 2+ years of field experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of field experience in electrical discipline.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, document, plan and perform work independently.
  • Shift: four 10-hour days, Mon-Thu 6:00 AM–4:30 PM; overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sketches showing wiring location or follow diagrams to ensure wiring is installed before completing closed areas.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install conduit using hand tools, hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit benders.
  • Pull wiring through conduit with helper.
  • Splice wires per company and customer requirements.
  • Connect wiring to equipment using hand tools.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus and fasten in place with crews or bolts.
  • Connect power cables and install grounding leads.
  • Test circuit continuity with ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc., for safety and compatibility.
  • Observe equipment function and determine adjustments or replacements needed.
  • Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems.
  • Load, transport, and unload materials and tools.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
  • Distinguish colors; work within precise limits; apply basic math to problems.

Job description

Job Overview

Successful candidate will perform a wide variety of electrical tasks including building control and motor control panels, mounting panels to skids, running conduit and wire to panels and instrumentation on skids and termination testing. Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools and familiar with 480v, 120v and 24v power and control systems. Typically 2 years and above documented field experience in electrical discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently. Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints ensuring that wiring is installed before completion of closed areas.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules and conduit benders.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by helper.
  • Splices wires following company and customer requirements.
  • Connect wiring to equipment using hand tools.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit- breaker panels, and fasten in place with crews or bolts using hand or power tools.
  • Connect power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Disassemble and repair defective electrical equipment or systems.
  • Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
  • Be able to distinguish colors.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Apply basic mathematics to solve problems.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with 2 previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision.
  • Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
  • 2 or more years of experience as an industrial electrician.
  • Familiar with NEC and NFPA 70 E Codes.
  • Perform maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Respiratory protection is common and may be required.
  • Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
  • Shop works four 10 hour shifts per week, Mon-Thurs. 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Overtime may be required.
Salary Range

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $25- $28 per hour. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
