Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Technical Specialist in Chicago, IL. You will perform engineering tasks under supervision, develop design drawings, and prepare calculations with CAD and related software. You’ll coordinate with other disciplines to deliver construction documents and specifications.

The role requires a degree in engineering (associate minimum) and at least five years of engineering experience, with strong verbal and written communication and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with computer applications and CAD software.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for the discipline; proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering assignments under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Design tasks involving evaluation and application of engineering techniques.
  • Produce design drawings and construction documents via CAD and other software.
  • Prepare design/quantity calculations and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervising engineer.

In the role of Electrical Technical Specialist, we'll count on you to:
  • Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures
  • Production of design drawings and construction documents through the use of computer aided design and other software
  • Preparation of design or quantity calculations
  • Preparation of specifications and contract documents
  • Coordination with other disciplines as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising engineer
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary environments

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
  • Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
