Job summary

The City of Anaheim Public Utilities Department is seeking an Electric Systems Designer to design and construct electrical utility transmission and distribution systems, both overhead and underground. Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the construction and/or design of electrical utility transmission and distribution systems, with completion of the twelfth grade and college-level coursework or specialized training in electrical engineering or related field.
• An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and knowledge/abilities is qualifying.

Responsibilities

• Design, prepare and initiate work orders including drawings and specifications for overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities; substation improvements and related systems.
• Investigate, analyze and determine efficient distribution and transmission routes; provide demand and consumption calculations; identify known underground facilities and obtain needed easements and permits.
• Conduct field investigations to verify existing conditions and calculate current and future requirements for electric consumption.
• Meet with engineers, planners, developers and outside agencies to determine distribution system layout and initiate contracts and work plans; coordinate construction activities.
• Prepare work orders and drawings; review project scope with field crews and answer questions during construction.
• Review completed projects to verify material quantities and ensure compliance with standards; oversee consultants.
• Plan, develop and initiate upgrade modifications/additions to transmission and distribution systems.
• Respond to inquiries from utility customers and other city departments; coordinate with stakeholders.
