Job summary

Mortenson seeks an Electrical Superintendent I to coordinate, plan, and supervise electrical activities across projects in the assigned region. You will lead Assistant Electrical Superintendents, contractors, and craft workers, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, and high-quality installations.

You will coordinate with engineers, review drawings, manage procurement, and mentor field teams. The role requires willingness to travel to California, Florida, or Texas with regular home rotations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of collection lines and substation construction.
  • Minimum 13 years supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in assembly, testing and maintenance of HV/MV cables and components.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate electrical scope work including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction.
  • Supervise installation of collection system and connect power grid to distribution system.
  • Provide drawing reviews, constructability feedback, and verify material/ workmanship quality.
  • Assist with scheduling, look-ahead planning, and resource management for field teams.
  • Ensure safety compliance, oversee quality control of both in-house and subcontracted work.
  • Monitor trade partner work plans for safety and enforce the Zero Injury Program.
  • Participate in meetings coordinating between field engineers, contractors, and craft workers.
  • Maintain OSHA records and assist with incident analysis.
  • Coach and develop field personnel and forepersons.

Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent I to provide coordination, planning, and supervision to Assistant Electrical Superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a specific area of discipline.

Key Requirements
  • Must be willing to be assigned to projects in California, Florida, or Texas with regular rotations home.
  • Visa sponsorships are not offered for this position.
  • Must have electrical experience/knowledge; solar experience preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate work projects within the electrical scope, ensuring high-quality installation of electrical portions, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction.
  • Supervise the installation of the collection system and manage the connection of the power grid to the existing distribution system.
  • Provide drawing, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship.
  • Partner with the Sr. Superintendent in formwork selection, equipment sizing, site utilization plan, and development of project schedules and updates, including three-week look-ahead.
  • Ensure work teams have necessary resources and support, and supervise quality control of work team, including self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for safety concerns, ensuring implementation, practice, and enforcement of the company’s Zero Injury Program.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components comply with drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee documentation, tracking, and analysis of all Safety, Injury, and Hazard statistics, trend analyses, and OSHA reports, and assist with major incident analysis.
  • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, providing work direction, performance evaluations, and development opportunities.
  • Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site, including customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc., and handle open shop and union issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of collection lines and substation construction.
  • Minimum 13 years supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cables.
  • Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing.
  • Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioning.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • 100% Travel.

Pay and Incentives

The base pay range for this role is $125,600 - $188,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
