Job Description
The Electrical Superintendent role will lead electrical teams for large scale projects. They will lead projects from pre‑construction through final completion and are directly responsible for safety and quality, client relations, project budget, schedule, job controls, vendor management, submittals, and procedures.
Summary
- Plans, directs, and coordinates construction activities for electrical industrial projects.
- Project types range from steel/manufacturing, power, data centers, and various MEP projects across a variety of industries and clients.
- Typical workload involves overseeing one large project or a couple/several smaller projects.
- Ensures project goals are achieved within time frame and funding limits by performing tasks personally or through subordinate supervisors.
- Manages Project Engineers, General Foreman, and Foremen who supervise construction employees; charged with overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set a 24/7 safety culture for crews.
- Initiate and maintain liaison with prime client to facilitate construction activities.
- Lead projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, and coordination; create and maintain project schedules to meet milestones and budgets.
- Ensure team members have appropriate resources (equipment, material, information).
- Provide expertise and knowledge to team members as needed; assist with difficult construction, start‑up, and close‑out problems.
- Work with Project Manager and Director on all personnel‑related issues in accordance with company policies and government laws.
- Identify and minimize obstacles throughout the construction process.
- Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within corporate policy boundaries.
- Confers with project staff to outline work plan, assign duties/responsibilities, and authority.
- Review project proposal or plan to determine timeframe, funding, procedures, staffing, and resources for each project phase.
- Review status reports from project personnel and modify schedules/plans as needed.
- Provide technical advice and problem resolution to project personnel.
- Coordinate project activities with subcontractor activities.
- Understand and execute CPM‑based project schedules.
- Represent company at owner progress meetings.
- Lead project team in daily field coordination meetings, weekly block schedule meetings, and monthly safety kickoff meetings.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Interview and hire; train; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward or discipline; address complaints and resolve problems in accordance with policies and applicable laws.
Education and Experience
- 10 years field experience as a skilled tradesperson, or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or construction management plus 7 years field experience.
- 4‑year engineering or construction management degree or equivalent technical experience progressing from Journeyman to Foreman to Superintendent.
- Prior experience working on union projects is strongly preferred.
