Job description

Position Summary

This position works under indirect supervision and independently performs diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, and installations of medium-sized more complex commercial/industrial electrical systems and/or equipment. Works with various types of tools, gauges, and measuring equipment. Position is dispatched daily to customers and be responsible for resolving the customers electrical problems in the highest professional and safe manner. This is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses electrical system performance through observation, testing, and setup.
  • Prepares work area and ensures tools, material, and equipment needed are present for work to be completed, estimating time and material to complete service task while staying in budget.
  • Assembles, installs, repairs, maintains, and tests electrical equipment and systems.
  • Disassembles and reassembles medium commercial equipment to perform trouble shooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Give and receive written and verbal instructions.
  • Compete work orders, task lists, and documents to verify work performance as needed to conform to customer invoicing requirements using smart phone/personal tablet technology.
  • Completes documentation of invoicing data based on hours worked and materials or equipment used to perform the service.
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to ensure compliance with codes and specifications to identify hazards, defects, and necessary adjustments/repairs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Determine client needs in a professional and effective manner.
  • Represents CEC Companies to the client by a clean and neat appearance on the job.
  • Communicates with Service Manager on a frequent basis regarding scheduling and work in progress.
  • Maintain inventory stock on service vehicle, equipment and/or tools to ensure proper condition and safe operations.
  • Participates in meetings and trainings as assigned.
  • Helps during emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns, operating safety; this includes availability to work after hours on-call and on weekends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective completion of project.
  • Responsible for ensuring Company vehicle is properly cleaned and maintained and for maintaining a clean and safe driving record. Meets requirements of company vehicle driving policy.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Current Journeyman Electrician License
  • Valid Class C drivers license and a clean driving record
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical system/equipment work experience.
  • Minimum 5-10 years with an active Journeyman Electrical License
  • Stable work history showing responsibility and professional growth.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; diploma from a recognized trade or technical school or equivalent comprised of 5 years experience and training.
Required Skill, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of English (ability to read, speak and write) while performing work-related tasks.
  • Maintains on-going required continued education, professional licenses and/or certifications as required by the position.
  • Practices and comprehends safe work procedures per Company policy.
  • Ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle as evidenced by past driving performance record and to adhere to all company safety requirements.
  • Ability to competently use a variety of gauges, meters, measuring instruments, hand and power tools and equipment.
Work Environment

May work inside or outside. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a Mechanical Service site.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Lift 51 pounds, routinely. Constantly move about on the feet.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  • Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, this position is often required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
