The Opportunity

This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects and building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including conduit design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting BESS facilities.

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry‑standard design tools, such as Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley tools. Advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules is required.

For lighting design, experience with AGI32 is preferred to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across BESS facilities.

• Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline

• Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns. Assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities
• Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel
• Recognized for expertise in one or more areas. May be assigned special assignments depending on technical expertise. Assignments may involve solving a particular design problem or participating in a design team focused on completing an assigned project task
• Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.

• Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
• Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
