Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Section Manager for the Building Engineering Services group with locations in Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; or Pittsburgh, PA. The role leads the electrical discipline, manages budgets and staffing, and collaborates with other design teams on diverse markets.

You will mentor staff, advance design standards, and ensure high-quality deliverables while coordinating with multiple offices and clients across sectors.

Overview

HDR is seeking an Electrical Section Manager for the Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; or Pittsburgh, PA. HDR is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team offering Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Site Civil Engineering services. We work across markets including Tech/Media/Telecom, Commercial Real Estate, Healthcare, Science and Technology, Industrial, Water/Wastewater, Federal, and Mission Critical projects, with a focus on sustainable design and energy conservation.

Responsibilities

• Establish client relations and participate in marketing and client development activities.
• Manage the technical and operational activities of the electrical discipline.
• Engage design partners early to inform design intent.
• Prepare and review project budgets and scopes for the electrical discipline and monitor financial performance.
• Schedule and coordinate all work within the discipline.
• Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
• Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
• Facilitate and encourage coordination with other discipline groups.
• Conduct interviews for new staff and provide new employee mentoring.
• Establish employee goals and conduct performance reviews.
• Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload, and quality control.
• Advance the skill level of personnel through training and development.
• Coordinate with electrical discipline managers at other locations to review workload, project status, and staffing.
• Prepare and review electrical engineering scope of work and fees for proposals.
• Monitor changes in codes, regulations, and client standards; keep staff up to date on industry practices.
• Implement changes into electrical design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
• Perform quality control reviews.
• Serve as a Project Manager occasionally and/or Task Lead when applicable.
• Perform project engineer duties when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of management experience.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firms.
• Experience in design calculations, specifications, and construction drawings for corporate/commercial development, industrial, federal, or mission-critical projects.
• Experience mentoring junior staff.
• Preference given to local candidates.
• Experience and interest in sustainable design, including credentials in high-performance building design (similar to LEED).

Required Qualifications
