Job description

Electrical Project Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to support our Renewables Division. The role involves designing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, plant layout, hardware selection, system optimization, power generation and interconnection requirements, and leading portions of project electrical engineering. The engineer will coordinate with the Project Lead and Senior Engineers to maintain standards, oversee junior engineers, designers, and drafters, and may supervise interns.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical engineering portions of commercial and utility‑scale solar projects.
  • Manage contractual electrical engineering scope, verify incorporation into design, and coordinate change orders with the project manager.
  • Ensure project deliverable schedules for electrical engineering scope are met.
  • Coordinate with civil, geotechnical/structural, and survey disciplines.
  • Perform electrical engineering design and create construction documents.
  • Conduct electrical calculations and studies such as short circuit, load flow, and voltage drop.
  • Coordinate with clients, utilities, and code enforcement officers.
  • Perform QA/QC of design work by interns, graduate engineers, and staff engineers.
  • Maintain awareness of available equipment and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with and support electrical engineering teams in other offices as workload sharing requires.
  • Support construction by responding to contractor and owner requests including RFIs and submittal review.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor interns, graduate engineers, and design technicians.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering Program.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NESC.
  • Proficiency with electrical power system modeling programs.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of experience in designing electrical distribution, generation, or general electrical construction.
  • Working knowledge of reading and creating construction drawings and specification packages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write detailed technical reports with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with progress reports, project data management, and communicating project requirements to stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and supportive team orientation.
  • Self‑motivated ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD (limited capacity acceptable).
Preferred Consideration
  • Experience in overall design and construction of renewable power projects.
  • Experience with EV chargers, lighting design, and photometrics analysis (AGI32 or Visual Lighting).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
  • Electrical PE License or potential to acquire one in the future.
  • Experience with energy storage systems (battery, flywheel, or capacitor).
  • Experience with ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, DigSilent PowerFactory, Homer Grid/Pro, microgrid design, backup generator design, or data center design.
  • Experience with PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or similar transient/dynamic modeling tools.
  • Experience with PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM, or other PV production modeling software.
  • Experience with Helios 3D, PVcase, RatedPower, SolarFarmer, or other PV site layout software.
  • Experience with NABCEP Certification.
  • Electrical PE License or ability to be licensed in multiple states.
Salary

USD 100,000 – 130,000 per year.
