Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or utility-scale construction.
• Experience with medium-voltage systems, protection & control, SCADA, and commissioning.
• EIT or PE license preferred; OSHA certifications desirable.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical engineering packages, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
• Coordinate electrical interfaces between BESS equipment, substations, SCADA, protection systems, and utility interconnections
• Support contractor bidding, technical evaluations, and procurement activities
• Supervise electrical construction, quality inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, Owner's Engineer, LUMA/PREPA, and project teams to resolve technical issues
• Monitor project progress, RFIs, NCRs, punch lists, and technical risks
• Prepare technical reports and support project closeout documentation, including as-builts and commissioning records

Job description

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for managing the electrical scope of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from engineering review through construction, commissioning, and final handover. This role ensures all electrical systems are installed, tested, and integrated in compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project schedules while coordinating with contractors, suppliers, utilities, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Review electrical engineering packages, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
• Coordinate electrical interfaces between BESS equipment, substations, SCADA, protection systems, and utility interconnections
• Support contractor bidding, technical evaluations, and procurement activities
• Supervise electrical construction, quality inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, Owner's Engineer, LUMA/PREPA, and project teams to resolve technical issues

Qualifications

• Experience with medium-voltage systems, protection & control, SCADA, commissioning, and contractor supervision
• EIT or PE license preferred
• OSHA certifications and experience with BESS projects are highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of power systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, grounding, SCADA, EMS, and electrical testing
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and LOTO requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera P6, ETAP, or similar engineering software is preferred
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
