Job summary

Strategic Mission Critical is seeking a Building Management System (BMS) Design Engineer to design EPMS and control sequences for mission critical facilities. The role focuses on reliability, redundancy, and seamless integration with other building systems.

Responsibilities include creating control design documents, EPMS specifications, and integration strategies with PLCs and mechanical systems. Collaboration with manufacturers and engineers is essential to meet project requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of EPMS design experience in consulting or mission critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of BCMS and PLC.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; relevant work experience may substitute.
  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with Division 25 and 26 specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed control system design documents, including sequences of operation and network diagrams.
  • Create EPMS specifications for projects.
  • Define integration strategies between EPMS, PLCs, mechanical/electrical systems, and third-party monitoring platforms.

Position Opening

The Building Management System (BMS) Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and technical development of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and control sequences for mission critical facilities. This role focuses on developing control system strategies that ensure reliability and redundancy as required by the project while supporting seamless integration with other building systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed control system design documents, including sequences of operation, network architecture diagrams and points lists.
  • Create project-related EPMS specifications.
  • Define integration strategies between EPMS, PLCs, mechanical and electrical systems, and third-party monitoring platforms.
  • Specify control panel requirements, I/O requirements, and communication protocols for all equipment.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical equipment manufacturers to ensure monitoring requirements are coordinated with equipment designs.
  • Collaborate with internal electrical engineers to ensure system logic aligns with owner design requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and/or external stakeholders to ensure network architecture and cabling requirements are incorporated into overall project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain company-wide standards for EPMS design, details, and documentation templates.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and technical workshops with clients, vendors, and commissioning agents.
  • Assist clients with evaluation and selection of control system integrators.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews to validate drawings, sequences, and integration details before issuance.
  • Conduct site visits to gather existing system information, review construction work in progress, and confirm installed conditions are in compliance with contract document requirements.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems design, preferably within consulting or mission critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of Branch Circuit Monitoring Systems (BCMS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Candidates with significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of one of these degrees.
  • Knowledge of control communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and TCP/IP.
  • Knowledge of PLC based Electrical Power Monitoring Systems.
  • Experience with Division 25 and 26 specifications.
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems including distribution equipment, generators, UPS, and similar equipment in the context of monitoring and integration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly describe complex control sequences.
  • Experience solely in the context of manufacturing or process automation is not preferred
Compensation

Base Compensation: $90,000-$120,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skills and/or location)
