Job summary

New Flyer is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support engineering activities within assigned manufacturing cells and drive lean initiatives. You will manage ECNs, create standard work, and lead capital upgrades to improve production metrics.

The role requires a four-year engineering degree, lean certification, and experience in fast-paced manufacturing, with proficiency in Excel, PLC/Ladder Logic, and Microsoft Office. On-site in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Manufacturing/Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Lean certification or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Office and PLC/Ladder Logic.

Responsibilities

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support within assigned cells.
  • Lead lean initiatives and 5S, value stream mapping, and setup reduction.
  • Review ECNs and support production implementation.
  • Create standard work instructions and training for staff.
  • Update plant layouts, inventories, and security maps.
  • Coordinate equipment upgrades and capital projects.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings to resolve issues.

Job description

POSITION GOAL:

Support all manufacturing engineering activities within assigned manufacturing cell(s) including

implementing and facilitating lean manufacturing initiatives, communicating ECN’s, assigning inventory locations,

conducting contract reviews, creating standard work instructions (SWI’s), evaluating standards and completing capital

and facility upgrades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide manufacturing engineering support and services within assigned manufacturing cell(s).

2. Work effectively as a cell team member to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is

actively pursued.

3. Maintain current updates on manufacturing engineering related tasks on the manufacturing cell log.

4. Represent manufacturing engineering within assigned cells at the daily cell meetings and weekly plant metrics

meetings.

5. Design or specify any equipment/tooling/racking required to support manufacturing.

6. Review relevant engineering change notifications (ECNs) within assigned cells or assigned option groups and

support all aspects of production implementation.

7. Assign default locators to all parts within assigned manufacturing cells.

8. Create standard work instructions and hot sheets and train the necessary personnel on those standards.

9. Update and maintain layouts (plant & cell layouts and inventory, housekeeping, emergency, & security maps etc.)

10. Specify and facilitate capital and equipment upgrades, installations or modifications.

11. Implement and facilitate lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.)

12. Promote an environment of continuous improvement and team work.

13. Lead or participate in SWAT team meetings, ensuring that necessary action is taken between cross-functional

groups to resolve issues.

14. Conduct process observations to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent.

15. Maintain necessary resource plans for ensuring production activities are properly resourced.

16. Validate routings and submit and implement routing change requests to process planning where appropriate.

17. Conduct contract reviews prior to contract start to ensure production preparedness.

18. Participate in Non-Conforming Parts (NCP) meetings as assigned, to assist with the disposition of non-conforming

materials.

19. Initiate engineering change requests (ECRs) where appropriate.

20. Support process planning and production engineering.

21. Participate in internal audits and Supplier Application Approvals, as required.

22. Check engineering documents, coordinate Electrical Checkout Procedures with production staff, basic electrical

troubleshooting with Electricians, Instructions to Service, Shop Floor Instructions and other documents as authorized

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Communicate Engineering Change Notification (ECN) to Quality Assurance and Production per ECN Process.

2. Liaison between Product Engineering and Production.

3. Provide pre-production support, including, but not limited to, organizing and leading pre-production meetings, and

reviewing pre-production information packets and addressing issues as needed.

4. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • - Four-year Manufacturing/Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology degree
  • - Experience with mobile electrical/electronic is highly desired
  • - Lean certification or applicable equivalent experience beneficial
  • - Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • - Superior computer and organizational skills
  • - Goal orientated and motivation to achieve tasks within set timelines
  • - Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Suite, PLC or Ladder Logic and Electrical troubleshooting
