Job summary

RTP Company is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Technician to install and service electrical systems on plastic production machinery. You will read blueprints and NEC specifications, repair wiring and control devices, and use test equipment to diagnose faults.

The role requires ability to travel to other RTP facilities and to work overtime as needed. Ideal candidates have a two-year technical degree in industrial maintenance and hands-on experience or training in forklift and scissor-lift

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in industrial maintenance preferred.
• One year of electrical maintenance experience preferred; training provided.
• Forklift/Scissor lift maintenance training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specs for troubleshooting.
• Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, control devices, and equipment.
• Diagnoses and repairs malfunctioning equipment using test equipment.
• Performs electrical and/or mechanical repairs as needed.
• Preserves preventative maintenance through system inspections.
• Operates forklift and scissor lift as required.
• Participates in training and continuous improvement processes.
• Maintains repair and maintenance records and drawings.

Brief Description

The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the electrical installation of equipment in a manufacturing setting, and the repair, installation, and preventative maintenance of plastic production machinery and facility electrical equipment. This includes, building and installing control boxes on new or refurbished equipment, helping the maintenance team solve production maintenance related issues, and may be required to direct the work of contractors who are conducting electrical installation of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints and electrical code specifications and schematics to effectively troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment and defective parts.
• Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, control devices, and equipment.
• Diagnoses, determines cause, and repairs malfunctioning equipment using test equipment.
• Performs required repairs (electrical and/or mechanical)
• Performs preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
• Operates forklift and scissor lift, as needed.
• Participates in training, retraining, and continual improvement processes.
• Has working knowledge of NEC and wiring methods.
• Maintain repair and maintenance records, including inventory, documents, manuals, drawings, etc.
• Supports the RTP quality policy and customer satisfaction mission by minimizing equipment downtime and lost production capacity.
• Follows safety and health guidelines.
• Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial equipment in a manufacturing facility.
• Ability to follow equipment manuals and drawings to adjust, align, replace, or repair machinery and keep records such as work orders and test and maintenance reports.
• PLC and electrical skills a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with automation programming software helpful, but not required.
• Must have general computer skills, ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints, and is capable of accurately distinguishing colors.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate courtesy and tack with people in various positions and levels within the company.
• Must have the ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
• Must have ability to work independently, solve problems, and make decisions within the scope of the position with little direction.
• Must follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
• Must have a positive attitude, be dependable, be flexible, and have excellent attendance.
• Near vision – the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• Must be able to travel within Winona to conduct electrical project work at other facilities.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and proof of insurability.
• Attendance is an essential function of the position.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Education And Experience

• Two-year technical degree in industrial maintenance related field or a combination of education experience preferred but not required.
• One year of experience as an Electrical Maintenance Technician preferred; will train.
• Plastic extrusion experience helpful; training provided.
• Forklift and Scissor lift maintenance. (Will train if not experienced)
• Basic electrical knowledge preferred.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Regularly

• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Talk and hear to coordinate and operate equipment
• Use of safety equipment as dictated by the work (safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, etc.)
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts.

Frequently

• Lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
• Work in temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions, with dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents.

Occasionally

• Sit or remain stationary for prolonged periods
• Handle (with mechanical equipment) up to 250 pounds.
• Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level requiring use of hearing protection
• Work at elevated heights of approximately 30 feet
• Operates a computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine and printer.
• Exposed to hazardous materials as defined by the OSHA Hazard Communication standard.

Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Required to use caution when using power tools including a variety of drills, saws, pipe threading and wire pulling equipment, and a core drilling machine. Proper personal safety equipment is to be used while performing this job as pointed out by plant safety procedures. Required to utilize appropriate PPE required for possible exposure to energized electrical equipment above 50 volts.
