Job summary

Scaled Composites, LLC seeks an Electrical Integration Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test electrical and avionics systems for our experimental aircraft. You will own a significant scope from concept through fabrication and flight test support, working across power distribution, telemetry, and data systems.

• DOD Secret Clearance or eligibility, as required.
• Ability to work under aggressive schedules and multi-project environments.

What you'll do: An Electrical Integration Engineer at Scaled is responsible for the design, development, modification, integration, and/or test of various systems on our custom experimental aircraft. These can include: * electrical power distribution and ground systems

• control signals
• data signal acquisition/storage/distribution * telemetry systems
• avionics
• display systems * interfaces between any and all of the above While we don't expect any of our engineers to know everything, we do look for people who have the capability and desire to learn nearly anything. We provide the responsibility, but also the opportunity, for an engineer to own a sizable chunk of the electrical design scope for a program for much of the life of that program. Our design cycles are short, and that can often require optimization toward schedule vs. really-nice-to-have requirements or design refinement. And we don't throw stuff over the wall - the Electrical Integration Engineer may be responsible for their design from concept through fabrication, installation, and integration, and from component-level testing all the way through to full vehicle flight test support. • Specifying and modifying COTS solutions for specific prototype aircraft needs
• Solving complicated problems with simple software/hardware solutions
• Design, development, modification, testing, and integration of aircraft software/hardware solutions
• Development and maintenance of electrical schematics for vehicles and test hardware
• Sufficient documentation of work to communicate design and intent to peers and future users
• Support of ground and flight test design, planning, and execution
• Complete product development with significant scope of individual ownership
• Support of electricians and technicians during installation and test of systems
• Simultaneous work on multiple projects
• Fundamental knowledge of electrical systems from power to signal-level
• Proficiency in software and/or electronic hardware development

• Strong knowledge of electrical technologies and products
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering -or- substantial equivalent experience
• Ability to work in multiple engineering disciplines on an aggressive schedule

• Familiarity with Garmin avionics customization, ACRA data acquisition is a plus
• Familiarity with aircraft electrical design best practices (ASTM F3231, FAR Part 23 and/or 25)
• Familiarity with aircraft electrical maintenance and inspection practices (FAA AC 43.13-1b Chapters 11 and 12)
• Proficiency programming in one or more computer languages (C, C++, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, etc.)
• Familiarity with aircraft RF systems, telemetry, EMI/EMC troubleshooting
• Embedded microprocessor or microcontroller programming experience
• Experience with hardware description languages and FPGAs
• 2-5 years of directly related work experience
• Rapid prototyping experience
• Aerospace experience (work history, pilot's license, experimental aircraft building, etc.)
• Hands-on design and/or build experience
• DOD Secret Clearance
• Additional degrees or relevant professional or advanced amateur experience
• Clearly communicate verbally and in writing
• Requires mobility and the ability to bend and reach
• May infrequently require lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling materials (LRUs, Ground Power Units, fuel bowsers, small aircraft) with a force up to 30 pounds
• Manual dexterity and coordination are required; repetitive hand motion (e.g., to operate computer keyboard, test equipment, aircraft avionics)
• Vision at close distances and the ability to adjust focus for prolonged periods (i.e., computer screen, flight displays)
• Ability to remain sedentary or stationary for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to write for extended periods of time
• Ability to work in an office setting for prolonged periods of time
• May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, test hardware, etc.
• Occasional reaching overhead and lifting up to 15 pounds
• Ability to converse and communicate information with others
• Occasional exposure to chemical vapors and/or fumes in low non-hazardous concentration
• Potential to climb up and down steps on a daily basis
• Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
