Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking an Industrial Electrician Foreman to lead a field crew in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in industrial facilities. The role supervises technicians, interprets drawings, and ensures work adheres to safety standards and codes.

The position requires 4+ years in refinery maintenance or related sectors, NCCER certification or Craft Skills Test, and the ability to coordinate complex wiring layouts and equipment installations.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years refinery maintenance/turnaround/construction experience.
  • Pass Craft Skills Test at 70% or NCCER certification.
  • Understand Matrix Service policies and procedures.
  • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management, and site-specific training.
  • Maintain active status in a drug testing program.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a crew of electricians, apprentices, and helpers; assign tasks by skill.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specs to plan work.
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment per manuals and blueprints.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus using test equipment and replace damaged wires or components.
  • Test machinery, discuss issues with maintenance team to diagnose problems.
  • Replace faulty components such as relays, switches, motors, and sensors.
  • Plan wiring layouts and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in facilities.
  • Identify hazards and take corrective actions to ensure safety.

Overview

An Industrial Electrician Foreman is a senior field supervisor who leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in industrial facilities such as manufacturing plants, power plants, process plants, and mining operations. This role blends technical expertise with leadership skills to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.

Responsibilities
  • Supervision & Leadership: Oversee a crew of electricians, apprentices, and helpers, assigning tasks based on skill level.
  • Technical Oversight: Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications to plan work sequences, material needs, and installation layouts.
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replace damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Test malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discuss malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.
  • Replace faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  • Replace electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  • Plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment; may be required to hold electrician's license.
  • Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervision.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years or more of refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • Good understanding of the craft environment being supervised and knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Craft Skills Test at or above 70% or have an NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Must have a good understanding of Matrix Service policies and procedures.
  • Must complete the Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training, S.T.A.R.T. Class and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status in a drug testing program.
