Job summary

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking an electrical fitter to install, repair, maintain, and service electrical equipment and fittings on ships.

The role requires working with motor starters, controllers, switchgears, transformers, and control panels, and performing precise wiring and fitting tasks in a heavy industrial shipyard. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of electrical fitter experience, a high school diploma or GED, and knowledge of OSHA/ABS regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, plus 3-5 years of electrical fitter experience in shipyards.
• Ability to tack weld with 7018/6011 stainless rod, MIG, and aluminum.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
• Able to read electrical specifications, wiring diagrams, and building plans.
• Strong math and measurement skills.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties.
• Update and maintain records of all installation and repair work.
• Work in different settings for installation, repair, maintenance of electrical equipment and fittings.
• Carry out mechanical fitting and assembling works relevant to heavy current equipment, and machine or fabricate parts for such equipment.
• Install electrical equipment such as motor starters, controllers, switchgears, switchboards, busbars, transformers, and control panels.
• Install meters, instruments, relays, and protection equipment.
• Install brackets, mechanical fittings, and assembly work in accordance with specifications.
• Rig and set equipment and foundations.
• Work with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and servicing of electrical equipment and fittings in accordance with regulations and specifications. Ensure that all electrical systems already installed are well maintained and operating in proper condition.

May indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates.

Requirements

• Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of previous electrical fitter experience in a shipyard desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Technical Skills: Ability to tack weld with 7018/6011 stainless rod, MIG, and aluminum. Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations. Working knowledge of lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
• Competencies: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, and diagram forms or plans; apply common sense to carry out instructions; read electrical specifications, wiring, circuit diagrams, and building plans; present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees; use hand and power tools safely; perform basic math and measurement tasks.
• Behavioral Attributes: Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety‑consciousness, and multitasking.

Physical Demands

Regular standing, walking, and use of hands to handle, feel, and reach. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work at heights of at least 50 feet, in confined spaces, and under extreme heat and cold. Must meet vision requirements, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Exposure to electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards of a heavy industrial shipyard. Strict compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal protective equipment is mandatory.
