Job summary

Thompson Construction Group is seeking a Field Engineer / Project Scheduler with 3-5 years of experience on industrial EPC projects, focusing in Electrical. You will collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to build industry knowledge and leadership in the construction field.

Join our team to help monitor site progress, develop and maintain project schedules with Primavera P6 and MS Project, and ensure specifications are met while delivering on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred or a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field. This experience can be from past internships you have held.
  • Strong scheduling and coordination skills with the ability to read drawings and specifications.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly with clients, management, and on-site teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 and MS Project.
  • Create baseline schedules with client coordinators and subcontractors.
  • Maintain schedules through project lifecycle with team input.
  • Identify critical paths and trends to keep the project on track.
  • Review drawings and specs to ensure progress matches contract.
  • Prepare material takeoffs and help with cost estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with safety codes and quality standards.

Position Description

Thompson Construction Group is looking for a Field Engineer / Project Scheduler with 3-5 years of experience around industrial EPC projects with a focus in Electrical. The ideal candidate will have some project scheduling experience. Additionally, the candidate would work hand in hand with our Project Managers and Superintendents to build the industry knowledge and leadership skills needed to advance yourself in the construction industry. Job Responsibilities

Responsible for monitoring activities at their assigned construction sites. Inspects construction site daily and works with vendors to schedule deliveries/ensures that materials are delivered on time. Responsible for reviewing specifications or drawings and ensuring that construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to. Works to ensure that all state, federal and industry codes or specifications are followed. Also reports to management any deviations and works on corrections. Works in a safe and timely manner with the best quality possible.

  • Develop and maintain an engineering and construction project schedule using Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Projects.
  • Develop a baseline project schedule working with client Construction Coordinators, multiple engineering firms, multiple OEM vendors and Subcontractor Project Managers.
  • Maintain schedule throughout the project lifecycle via feedback from the internal project team as well as input from Contractor and Vendor schedules.
  • Identify critical and near-critical paths as well as trends to help project team stay on track.
  • Work closely with the Project Management personnel to ensure we are meeting the job specifications.
  • Review data to determine material type and size then prepare itemized lists.
  • Purchase, expedite and receive permanent material to ensure proper quantity and quality are received.
  • Perform material take offs and ensure proper quantity is ordered in a timely manner to meet the job deadlines.
  • Review inventory parts received for correct specifications.
  • Resolve any problems with parts that are not correct or have been shipped out of sequence.
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare for construction bids or installations.
  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred or a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field. This experience can be from past internships you have held.
  • Must have good communication skills, verbal and written, with all levels from client, management to workers and subs.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Project and P6. Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
  • Must be able to utilize math at the college level and read/operate precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, shop drawings, procedure manuals and safety rules.
  • Candidate must require to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
