Job summary

Atwell, LLC is seeking a mid-level Electrical Field Engineer (SCADA) for the Field Services group in the United States. You will perform engineering field services with a SCADA focus and support design and analysis under a Professional Engineer.

You will set up relaying and control systems, test SCADA/IP-based networks, and travel as needed to deliver on-time, within-budget results, maintaining safety and quality standards throughout projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 1–5 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • FE licensure preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA protocols (IEC61850, DNP3, MODBUS).
  • Ability to travel interstate for field work.
  • Authorized to work in the United States full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Performs equipment, control system, troubleshooting, relay testing, start-up, and commissioning services.
  • Assist in detailed design of electrical power systems including one-line/three-line diagrams, SCADA, and wiring.
  • Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems (SEL RTACs).
  • Install, program, and test communications, SCADA, and PLC systems (SEL RTACs, NEI).
  • Produce configuration files for IEC61850 (GOOSE), DNP3, or other SCADA protocols.
  • Perform SCADA and relay field testing and commissioning services.
  • Provide field assistance and troubleshooting for SCADA systems (SEL RTAC, Ignition, PLCs).
  • Maintain quality control and client relations; prepare field reports.
  • Stay current with applicable Codes and Standards; travel as needed.

Job Description

As a mid-level Electrical Field Engineer (SCADA) in the Field Services group, you will be responsible for performing Engineering Field Services with a SCADA focus as well as assisting with Engineering Design and Analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer in a manner that provides the client with quality service that is on time and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Performs equipment, control system, communications, troubleshooting, relay testing, start-up, and commissioning services
  • Assist in detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications
  • Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems, specifically SEL equipment.
  • Installation, program, and tests communications, SCADA, and PLC systems, primarily SEL RTACsNEI Electric Power Engineering, Inc. 2
  • Produce configuration files associated with IEC61850 (GOOSE), DNP3, or other SCADA protocols
  • Perform SCADA and relay field testing and commissioning services
  • Provide field assistance and troubleshooting for SCADA systems such as SEL RTAC, Ignition, or PLCs.
  • Checking the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy as required
  • Prepares field testing, troubleshooting, investigation, and construction progress reports
  • Maintains a thorough understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards
  • Expected to work additional time beyond 40 hours/week as required to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
  • Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Experience: 1-5 years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE is preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with medium and high voltage power systems, with strong knowledge in SCADA
  • SEL equipment installation and configuration, RTAC experience is a plus
  • Experience with configuring, testing, and commissioning IEC61850, DNP3, MODBUS, and/or other SCADA protocols
  • Experience creating Network Architecture Diagrams
  • Previous Interactions with clients, customers, contractors and others
  • Ability to travel periodically for weeks across states for field work as needed
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and power system software such as EasyPower, ETAP or SKM (preferred)
  • Experience with Omicron test equipment preferred (preferred)
  • Relay / SCADA panel wiring experience in a substation environment (preferred)
