Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated Electrical Estimator / Project Coordinator to join our growing team. This is a dual-function role combining pre-construction estimating with active project coordination and purchasing responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, construction practices, and project management fundamentals, with the ability to produce accurate, competitive estimates while also supporting project execution from award through closeout.

This role is critical in ensuring our bids are precise and aligned with our high standards, while also contributing to efficient project delivery, vendor relationships, and material procurement.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare detailed time, cost, and labor estimates.
  • Perform complete quantity takeoffs for electrical materials, conduit, wire, devices, and equipment using Bluebeam, Accubid Anywhere, or equivalent software.
  • Prepare detailed estimates for material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Identify and assess potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of current market conditions, labor rates, and material pricing.
  • Prepare formal bid proposals and participate in bid reviews, leveling, and client presentations.
  • Occasionally conduct site visits to gather essential project information prior to bidding.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Track bid outcomes and refine estimating databases and cost history for future use.
Purchasing & Materials Management
  • Source, solicit quotes from, and select vendors and suppliers for electrical materials and equipment in alignment with project budgets and schedules.
  • Issue purchase orders and manage material procurement from award through delivery confirmation.
  • Maintain and develop supplier and vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing and reliable lead times.
  • Review and reconcile material invoices against purchase orders; coordinate with accounting as needed.
  • Track and manage material submittals, approvals, and substitutions in coordination with project team.
  • Monitor inventory levels for common stock materials; coordinate restocking as needed.
Project Coordination & Management
  • Support project managers in planning, scheduling, and executing electrical projects from award through closeout.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Monitor project costs and compare actuals against the original estimate; flag and report variances.
  • Coordinate with IBEW field crews, subcontractors, general contractors, and owners on project logistics and scheduling.
  • Support preparation and tracking of Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders.
  • Attend project meetings and document action items, decisions, and follow-ups.
  • Assist in project closeout activities including punch lists, as-builts, and final billing.
  • Support utilization tracking and reporting for certified MWBE participation requirements where applicable.
Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electrical contracting industry (estimating, project coordination, or field supervision).
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid Anywhere, Bluebeam, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC code, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, one-line diagrams, and construction documents.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent trade experience.
  • Journeyworker Electrician license or background in the IBEW apprenticeship program.
  • Experience with project management software (Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).
  • Familiarity with union labor agreements and certified payroll requirements.
  • Experience with MWBE reporting, prevailing wage projects, or public bidding processes.

Work Environment & Schedule

Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment at our Inver Grove Heights location. This role regularly uses standard office equipment including computers, estimating software, phones, and copiers. Occasional site visits to active construction projects may be required. Work hours are Monday through Friday with flexible scheduling between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Physical and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a keyboard and computer for extended periods. Specific hearing abilities required include the ability to hear, interpret, and understand speech in person and by phone. Vision requirements include the ability to see fine detail at close range, primarily from a computer screen or printed construction documents. This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs., and the ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods during site visits.
