Job summary

CEC Companies seeks a skilled Commercial Construction Estimator to develop detailed cost estimates from schematic documents and support bid packaging for negotiated projects. You will work with architects, engineers, and owners, preparing updates as designs evolve and leading variance analyses.

The role requires expertise in unit costs, bid packages, and cost engineering, with a focus on value engineering and successful RFP responses. A strong team player able to work independently is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; cost-estimating experience preferred.
  • 3+ years as a Commercial Construction Estimator on core market projects.
  • Experience drafting estimates, cost studies, and bid packages.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and cost studies from schematic/feasibility docs.
  • Create estimate updates as designs evolve, including variance summaries.
  • Prepare bidder instructions, clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.

Works closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMust have experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation.Ability to prepare detailed estimate updates, as the design evolves, including preparing variance summaries between estimates.Must have knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost.Ability to prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages.Ability to understand and negotiate electrical and/or mechanical work.Must have experience writing and negotiating subcontracts.Must be prepared to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost / budget information to the Customer / Owner.Willingness and desire to actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with the project team and design team.Must have experience being a member of the team involved in Request for Proposal Responses (RFPs) and the formal presentation for a project.Can develop business with new and existing Customers.Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.Education and ExperienceBachelors degree a plus or equivalent required related experience3+ years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably within CECs Core Market projectsRequired Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesMust have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.Must be able to pass drug and background check.Alignment with companys mission, vision, and values.Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam.High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize.Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.Flexible and adaptable; ability to work in a team environment and initiative to work aloneAbility to work flexible hours, if needed.Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed.
