Job summary

Sonoco in Columbus, OH is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support plant electrical maintenance and safety programs. The role focuses on electrical controls, PLCs, drives, and HMI systems for reliable plant operations.

Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant's overall business plans and objectives as directed.

What you'll be doing:

• Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
• Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required.
• Supports and follows the SQF (Safe Quality Food) guidelines of the food safety system.
• Follows company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco's Global Code of Conduct.
• Supervises and coordinates the employees and activities of the electrical maintenance department.
• Provides and plans technical training and establishes individual development plans.
• Plans and estimates electrical jobs.
• Recommends procedure revisions when necessary to fully utilize assigned personnel and equipment.
• Determines procedures for maintenance, installation, modification and repair of electrical assignments.
• Inspects work to ensure compliance with standard procedures and electrical assignments.
• Examines electrical services for proper working procedures.
• Plans and executes electrical dispatches using the L2L system.
• Requests and adds electrical components and materials to inventory as needed.
• Plans and executes electrical PM work.
• Oversees the electrical installation and maintenance program, including preventative, of plant machines.
• Identifies inefficiencies and potential electrical problems and coordinates with subordinates and contractors to resolve issues.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position will be located in our Columbus, Ohio facility.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.

• Working knowledge of electrical controls such as PLCS, drives, motors, HMIs and communication switches in addition to electrical power distribution
• Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Ability to effectively instruct and train other employees.
• Ability to communicate effectively, write effectively, read, comprehend, and follow complicated verbal and written instructions.
• Experience troubleshooting 24 VDC, 120 AC and 480 AC electrical circuits.
• Capable of programming PLCS, frequency drives and other controllers for proper equipment operations.
• Capable of troubleshooting, adjusting, and repairing all electrical equipment, solid state circuits, components, logic boards, transducers, amplifiers, PLCS, Frequency Drives, and inspection devices.
• Capable of reading and editing AutoCAD drawings.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Ability to wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.

<10% Travel Compensation: The annual base salary range for this role is from $104,800 to $117,900, plus a quarterly target bonus of 12.5% of base salary. At Sonoco Products Company, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive pay and benefits.
