Generac’s Electrical Engineering Intern program for Summer 2027 is on-site in Waukesha, WI and Pewaukee, WI, offering a 40-hour work week from May/June through August. Roles include Electrical Systems, Controls Engineering, Embedded Systems, and Power Electronics, with mentors and hands-on project exposure.

You will contribute to design and development initiatives, gaining real-world experience across product areas and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Understanding of basic electrical concepts.
  • Read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics.
  • Background in programming languages that communicate with electronic hardware.
  • Proficient oral and written communication and able to write clearly and succinctly to get a message across.
  • Ability to work FULL-TIME during the Summer – 40 Hour Week; Potential to continue working part time during school.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, validates, and brings new products to market.
  • Provides new product development support including CAD models, drawings, and BOMs; supports product development plans and interfaces with internal personnel.
  • Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates components; evaluates cost, reliability, safety.
  • Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans.
  • Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize basic designs for manufacturability.
  • Utilizes CAD/CAE systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Travels to other Generac facilities as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
