Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an Electrical Engineering Intern to support staff and customers, develop knowledge of SEL technologies, and perform testing on new and existing products. You will assist engineers with enclosure design, simulators, HMI and PLC work, and power system studies.

Ideal candidates are electrical engineering students with programming experience, 3-phase power knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with coursework.
  • Ability to work on-site in Boise, ID full-time in summer and part-time during school year.
  • Experience in programming and scripting files.
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.
  • Working knowledge of emulators and logic analyzers.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows and serial port terminal emulation software.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team.
  • Background check satisfactory to SEL and negative drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to SEL staff and customers.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of SEL processes and technologies.
  • Perform testing on new and existing technology.
  • Assist engineers with electrical enclosure and test rack creation.
  • Develop simulators and test customer Protection/Automation systems.
  • Assist with HMI creation and PLC programming.
  • Assist with power system studies and SEL relay settings.
  • Research and test new tools and technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
