Job summary

fab2 is seeking an enthusiastic RF power engineering intern to rapidly develop compact RF systems from requirements to production stages. The internship starts in May or June, for a 4–8 month commitment, with ownership of entire RF power systems alongside other engineers.

The role emphasizes fast design cycles, portfolio demonstration, and hands-on testing. You will work in a startup environment with labs in Austin, TX, and other locations, and a strong emphasis on building shipped systems.

Qualifications

• Portfolio required showing built RF systems or related projects.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience with RF hardware preferred.
• Familiarity with RF power systems and components is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design of complete RF power systems from architecture to layout.
• Support RF diagnostics, metrology, and system requirements gathering.
• Collaborate with engineers to define firmware requirements and sourcing.

About The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic RF power engineering intern who can rapidly develop compact RF systems from gathering requirements to the production stage. The internship begins in May or June, with the option for preferably a 4 to 8-month commitment. You will get to own entire RF power systems while working closely with other engineers to enable small and fast semiconductor plasma systems. You will be exposed to many diverse problems and will need to move through design cycles quickly.

Our philosophy is to get things built and tested in days or weeks, not months. Because of this, a portfolio is required to apply: show us the things you’ve actually built! If you’ve shipped a medium-to-high complexity system through a personal project or previous internship, you’d be a good fit here.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design of complete RF power systems from architecture to schematic to layout
• Ensure accurate RF power diagnostics and metrology
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to gather system requirements
• Help define of firmware requirements
• Source components and lead manufacturing effort

Required Experience

• Experience building of RF systems
• RF resonant power amplifier design in the 100s of Watts range
• RF power measurement sensor design
• Hands on prototyping and testing
• Cable harness design, documentation, and fabrication

Nice-to-have

• Advanced degree in power electronics or related field
• Plasma systems experience
• Systems engineering and integration

We’re an early-stage hardware startup with solid funding, world-class advisors, and labs/offices in Austin, TX, Lockhart, TX, and San Francisco, CA. fab2 is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Hardware Interns are paid an hourly rate equivalent to an annualized range of $108,000-126,000, depending on experience and education level. Actual earnings will vary depending on internship length and hours worked.
