Job summary

Arcadis is seeking an electrical engineering intern to support senior staff in layout and design of power distribution, motor control, lighting, and grid-tied DER systems. You will learn typical engineering tasks and gradually perform them under guidance, with review from senior staff.

You will assist with calculations, model building, and design documents, and travel to client sites as needed to observe and support implementations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 2–3 years of study.
• Basic understanding of distribution power design is preferred.
• 0–1 year of electrical engineering/design internship or work experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support load calculations, generator sizing, voltage drop analysis, and fault current calculations.
• Model electrical, lighting, and solar PV systems for design review.
• Prepare single-line diagrams, motor control schematics, and floor plans.
• Assist with cost estimates, review submittals, and coordinate with senior staff.
• Travel to client sites to observe and support implementation.

Role description:

The primary focus of the internship is to support senior electrical staff in the design of electrical power distribution, motor control, lighting, communications, and grid tied DER systems through calculations, modeling, and developing design plans. The successful candidate will learn typical engineering tasks related to the design and then perform these tasks on their own and review the results of the assignment with senior staff.

Role accountabilities:

In this internship, you will assist with researching, analyzing, and developing solutions to client-specific challenges within the water, wastewater, and broader industrial sectors. Responsibilities include supporting electrical engineering design activities such as load calculations, generator sizing, voltage drop analysis, fault current calculations, and the modeling of electrical, lighting, and solar photovoltaic systems. You will also contribute to the preparation of electrical design documents, including single-line diagrams, AC and DC elementary drawings, motor control schematics, and floor plans. Additional duties include assisting with cost estimates, reviewing construction submittals and related documentation, coordinating with senior staff to meet project deadlines, and traveling to client sites to observe and support the implementation of engineering designs.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with two to three years of study

Preferred Qualifications

• 0-1 year of electrical engineering and design internship or work experience; US Power electric utility is a plus
• Basic understanding of distribution power design
• Proficient in Revit AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, Visual lighting software, Elumtools
