Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Buildings practice in Richmond, VA. You will work alongside experienced engineers and designers on multiple projects, performing tasks to develop knowledge in the electrical discipline under supervision.

The position is intended to be 40 hours per week, with assignments focusing on lighting/controls, power distribution, energy efficiency, and fire alarm systems in government facilities.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and PDF editing software.
  • Ability to learn Revit and apply basic electrical engineering principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willing to work in an office setting with some field work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare contract drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and details from concept to construction using Revit and Excel.
  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of project deliverables.
  • Follow production guidelines and project standards of the department.
  • Learn to apply fundamental engineering principles to solve real-world problems.

Your Opportunity

In this position as an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and designers on multiple projects. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment. This position is intended to be 40 hours per week.

The role of an Electrical Engineering Intern is to perform a variety of tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills within the electrical discipline. Assignments will be designed to help develop good technical understanding of the basics with work being performed will be under direct supervision of an experienced Electrical Engineer.

An Electrical Engineering Intern will perform a variety of tasks to assist with the development of plans and designs of electrical systems consisting of, but not limited to, lighting/controls, power distribution/generation, energy efficiency/sustainability, and fire alarm in government facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities

Work closely with Building Electrical Engineers and Designs to prepare contract drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and details ranging from conceptual design to detailed construction documents using software such as Revit and Excel

  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables

  • Follow production guidelines and project standards of the department

  • Learn to apply fundamental engineering principles to solve real-world problems

  • You will be expected to support team operations and play an integral part in the promotion of our health and safety culture

  • Coordinates with other cross discipline professionals on assigned projects

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and PDF editing software (Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, etc.)

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team

  • Ability to learn and develop working knowledge of Revit

  • Working knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles and calculations

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation

  • Strong work ethic and motivation to learn

  • Commitment to a culture of safety

Education and Experience
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

Pay Range:
  • $23.47 - $34.50 Hourly

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary:

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
