Job summary

Overview

Join our team as an Electrical Engineer- Refinery/ Oil & Gas! This is a hybrid role based in our Toledo office in Maumee, Ohio. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay. The Electrical Engineer will play a hands-on role in delivering support refinery and industrial facility projects by developing electrical designs and installation packages from concept through startup. Electrical design engineers at Matrix work with our clients on multiple projects to solve their problems through the design of electrical control panels, MCCs, and VFD panels. The position includes designing low-voltage (typically 480VAC or less) systems for our client's automated processes. The position will work independently and as a part of a diverse team of multi-disciplinary engineers to solve problems and execute projects for industrial and manufacturing clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion a strong safety culture by adhering to and promoting industry, client, and Matrix safety standards while supporting site safety initiatives and safe work practices.
  • Follow and support the continuous improvement of Matrix standards, procedures, and project methodologies while mentoring others in their application.
  • Develop project scopes, field investigation reports, conceptual designs, cost estimates, specifications, and project performance updates.
  • Conduct field walks and gather data in operating refinery, terminal, and industrial facilities to support project development and execution.
  • Develop electrical engineering and construction packages, including three-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, cable schedules, conduit plans, equipment wiring details, and related design deliverables.
  • Apply NEC, NFPA, hazardous (classified) location, and client-specific standards to electrical designs.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, operations personnel, contractors, and clients throughout project execution.
  • Develop construction scopes of work, support contractor bid evaluations, and participate in site bid walks.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, startup, and turnaround activities, including troubleshooting and resolving field issues.
  • Support site execution by working closely with contractors and operations personnel to ensure successful installation and implementation of project designs.
  • Travel to client sites to support field investigations, construction activities, commissioning, and startup efforts.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Must be able to comply with refinery and client safety requirements, including respirator fit-testing and clean-shaven policies where required.
Qualifications
  • 5+ previous experience as an electrical engineer.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET) from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Professional Engineering (PE) certification preferred.
  • Basic AutoCAD schematic drawing or electrical package development experience.
  • Experience with AC & DC motor drives, PLCs, HMIs, I/O hardware, MCCs, and industrial control networks preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards, specifically NFPA.
  • Varied industrial background is a plus. Key industries include food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel, both locally and overnight, approximately 20-25%.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

We offer market-competitive compensation for an Electrical Engineer with a base range of $68,000 to $128,000 annually and a total compensation package that includes profit sharing, ESOP participation, 401(k) matching, and overtime pay. Salaries are based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
