Job summary

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division in Raleigh, NC is seeking an Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics to join our team. This role is open to relocation, and the role will report to the site on a hybrid, 3 day in office, 2 remote schedule. This role will offer sponsorship for those located in the United States.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $94,000 - $138,000 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ work experience working with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of one (1) year work experience working with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new products from concept to production meeting customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost and schedule commitments.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional engineering teams to design and develop new products including three-phase 480V UPS, 1MW+ energy storage systems, or solid state transformer products.
  • Create and maintain functional specifications aligned with customer and product management requirements.
  • Review data and simulate power electronics, analog, logical, and digital circuits, including transient and state machine analyses; drive design excellence.
  • Collaborate with electrical lead in projects and meet cost, performance, and schedule goals for areas of responsibility.
  • Interface with vendors on component technical issues and design solutions.
  • Support product DVT and validation testing in the lab with engineers and technicians.
  • Support prototype build, testing and delivery of products to customers.

What You’ll Do
  • Successfully develop new products from concept to production that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost and schedule commitments.
  • Work with global cross‑functional engineering team to design and develop new products which may include three‑phase 480V UPS, 1MW and larger energy storage systems, or solid state transformer (SST) products for maintaining critical loads such as data centers and hospitals.
  • Create and maintain functional specifications aligned with customer and product management requirements.
  • Review data and simulate power electronics, analog, logical, and digital circuits, including transient and state machine change analyses. Drive technical excellence and rigor through simulations and Design for Six Sigma concepts.
  • Collaborate with the electrical lead in product development projects and be accountable for meeting cost, product performance, and schedule goals for areas of responsibility.
  • Interface with vendors on component technical issues, including data sheet clarification, component performance, and design solutions.
  • Support product DVT and validation testing in the lab with a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Support prototype build, testing and delivery of products to the customer.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ work experience working with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of one (1) year work experience working with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.
Preferred
  • Experience with inverter design, knowledge of battery systems and protective devices including power distribution.
  • Knowledge of three‑phase power systems, power electronics utility interface, and power conversion topologies.
  • Understanding of Power Electronic controls and the impact on system design.
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma tools.
  • Experience interacting with global teams.
  • Experience in development of medium voltage power conversion equipment.
Position Criteria
  • Understanding of magnetics design for high frequency power electronics.
  • Ability to simulate, analyze, troubleshoot using HIL systems.
  • Competent with MATLAB/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE.
  • Analyze and simulate power electronics systems from board level to complex products.
  • Familiarity with schematic entry and PCB design tools like Altium, Cadence, etc.
  • Understanding of layout design principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Position requires an individual who is self‑motivated, self‑managed, team‑oriented, proactive, attentive to detail, task‑oriented, and able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.
  • Familiarity with common tools and methods to work in high power lab (480V) environment, oscilloscope, power analyzers and meters.
  • Work in lab environment around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.
