Job description

Company Summary

Triton Systems, Inc combines 30+ years of experience with exciting growth and innovation opportunities within the product development and R&D space. We support Government and commercial markets by delivering advanced solutions across applications in defense, security, aerospace, energy, environmental sustainability, and human health. Where we see a larger opportunity, we create new companies to scale these solutions into businesses. Our teams thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where we tackle complex challenges, meet our customers' toughest requirements, and deliver high-impact results on time, on budget and have fun while doing it. Triton's Metals & AM team is also building out custom-integrated advanced metal additive manufacturing systems, e.g., large-format cold spray systems, to address repair, coating and advanced manufacturing needs.

Are you Driven to Innovate? Triton Systems develops new, exciting, innovative products for the maritime environment. The Ocean Systems and Metals/Advanced Manufacturing group is seeking a hands‑on electrical engineer with a passion for power electronics, interested in developing marine systems from initial concepts through prototype demonstrations and product commercialization.

Triton Systems Ocean Systems group develops underwater vehicles (UUVs), surface vehicles (USVs), Launch & Recovery Systems, underwater products and their subsystems. Additionally, the Ocean Systems group develops systems for submarines, autonomous anchor systems for the defense, energy, and commercial sectors. As our Power Electronics Engineer, you will design and build the power conversion, motor control, and electrical systems that bring these platforms to life. Being innovative and providing technical problem‑solving within a multidisciplinary team of researchers will be a major part of your work life.

Responsibilities
  • Design power electronics solutions including DC-DC, AC-DC, and transformer-based power conversion based on technical requirements, specifications, and proposal objectives
  • With mentorship from senior engineering staff
  • Design power distribution and conversion architectures for containerized metal additive manufacturing systems, including load analysis and sequencing of high‑power process equipment such as gas heaters, spindle drives, and welding power sources totaling 100+ kW
  • Design electrical systems for operation on tactical generator and shore power, addressing power quality, inrush and soft‑start, grounding of separately derived systems, and 50/60 Hz international compatibility
  • Integrate motor drives, welding power sources, robot controllers, and process instrumentation (pyrometers, thermal cameras, feed monitoring) into automated deposition cells
  • Design safety circuits and zoned E‑stop architectures for robotic manufacturing cells operating inside ISO containers
  • Address thermal management, dust and moisture ingress, and EMI mitigation for high‑power electrical systems in sealed containerized enclosures
  • Support field commissioning, acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), and troubleshooting of containerized systems at demonstration and deployment sites
  • Design and build electrical control panels using DIN‑rail mounted components for systems operating on 120–480 VAC single and three‑phase power
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Select and size commercial‑off‑the‑shelf (COTS) electrical components from a variety of vendors to meet product requirements (breakers, contactors, terminal blocks, power supplies, transformers, safety buttons/lights, etc.)
  • Develop power and motor control circuits and support system‑level integration
  • Design PCBs in Altium to support power and control electronics
  • Collaborate closely with controls engineers, since power electronics are paired with control electronics in our systems
  • Build, wire, and assemble prototype electrical systems hands‑on in a lab and prototype environment
  • Bench‑test, troubleshoot, and validate electrical systems using available test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, load equipment, multimeters, etc.)
  • Develop, document, and maintain engineering procedures and technical standards
  • Plan, execute, and iterate testing activities in laboratory and field environments
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve design goals
  • Contribute to technical proposals and solution development for customer needs
  • Present technical progress and results to internal teams and customers, including non‑technical audiences
  • Prepare periodic technical and progress reports for ongoing projects
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • 1–6 years of relevant experience (recent graduates and early‑career engineers are encouraged to apply)
  • Foundational knowledge of power electronics and power conversion (DC-DC, AC-DC, transformers)
  • Familiarity with single and three‑phase AC power (120–480 VAC) and low‑voltage DC (12–48 VDC)
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with standard electrical practices and electrical standards
  • Hands‑on aptitude with electrical assemblies, wiring, and prototyping
  • Comfortable using basic hand tools and electrical test equipment in a lab or prototype environment
