Job summary

Our client, a leading power engineering organization, seeks an Electrical Engineer Power Design in Long Beach, CA. You will join the Electrical Engineering team supporting HV substations and transmission line design efforts, taking ownership and coordinating across disciplines to deliver field-ready designs.

Responsibilities include developing diagrams and layouts, grounding plans, and transmission line planning with QA/QC and IFC/bid packages.

Qualifications

• Experience in HV/EHV substations and TL projects.
• Knowledge of 115-500 kV substation design and related schematics.
• Experience with plan & profile, sag-tension, conductor selection.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, SDS) and PLS-CADD suite.

• Develop and update one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams for substations.
• Create general arrangement layouts, equipment plans, sections, elevations, and foundation interface drawings.
• Produce grounding plan drawings and coordinate with structural teams on supports and foundation details.
• Lead transmission line plan & profile production, including conductor/shield wire selection and sag-tension modeling.
• Support QA/QC through redlines, peer checks, checkpoint reviews, and IFC/bid/as-built design packaging.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical ownership, a quality-first mindset, and the ability to coordinate across disciplines to deliver accurate, field-ready electrical designs.

What's the Job?

• Develop and update one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams for substations.
• Create general arrangement layouts, equipment plans, sections, elevations, and foundation interface drawings, including conduit plans, cable schedules, trench details, and control building layouts.
• Produce grounding plan drawings, grounding connections, and support grounding study implementation; coordinate with structural teams on steel framing, equipment supports, and foundation details.
• Lead transmission line plan & profile production, including conductor/shield wire selection, structure locations, span details, and sag-tension modeling (PLS-CADD preferred).
• Support QA/QC through redlines, corrections, peer checks, checkpoint reviews (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC), and preparation of IFC/bid/as-built design packages with strong document control.

What's Needed?

• 8-10 years of electrical design experience in high-voltage (HV/EHV) substations and Medium Voltage and transmission line (TL) projects.
• Strong knowledge of 115-500 kV substation design, including equipment layouts, one-lines/three-lines, control and protection schematic drafting, grounding plans, lighting, and conduit/cable routing.
• Demonstrated experience preparing plan & profile, structure lists, sag-tension, and conductor selection for TL projects (PLS-CADD preferred).
• Proficiency with industry CAD tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or SDS - Substation Design Suite, and PLS-CADD plus PLS-Pole/PLS-Tower (preferred); Revit is optional but beneficial.
• Working knowledge of utility and regional standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, WECC, and California utility requirements) and the ability to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and vendor drawings.
