Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a licensed electrical engineer to guide electrical design on large commercial projects in our Illinois area. You will mentor engineers, prepare drawings and specifications, and ensure NEC compliance across project teams.

Collaboration with PMs, AHJs, and clients will be frequent. The role requires a PE license, a Baccalaureate in electrical or architectural engineering, and 5 years post-PE experience, with strong communication and multitasking abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
  • Five years of post-PE experience on large commercial projects.
  • Demonstrated NEC knowledge and code compliance.
  • Clean driving record and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct electrical engineering of projects in line with NEC and company standards.
  • Assist PM with budgets, execution plans, cost estimates and schedules.
  • Execute electrical engineering tasks within budget, schedule and quality targets.
  • Prepare study reports, drawings and specifications suitable for stamping.
  • Develop addenda, PRs and SIs for projects.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to Electrical Engineers, Designers and BIM/CAD Technicians.
  • Attend client meetings and prepare notes.
  • Coordinate electrical engineering with project team members, clients and AHJ.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on integrated project teams.
  • Support QA reviews for all project disciplines.
  • Visit sites for investigation, survey and record of existing conditions.
  • Uphold Company brand and ensure a positive client experience.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Company Leadership.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Responsible to oversee and direct the electrical engineering of projects in accordance with engineering best practices, company standards and in compliance with the National Electrical Code.
  • Assist the Project Manager in establishing and preparing project budgets, project execution plans, construction cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Execute the electrical engineering aspects of a project within the budget, schedule and quality as agreed with the Project Manager.
  • Prepare engineering documents in the form of study reports, drawings and specifications that may be stamped and signed, as required.
  • Prepare Addendums, Proposal Requests (PR) and Supplemental Instructions (SI) for projects.
  • Provide mentoring and technical direction to Electrical Engineers, Designers and BIM/CAD Technicians.
  • Attend meetings with clients and prepare meeting notes as appropriate.
  • Coordinate communications in relation to electrical engineering with project team members, clients and the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Coordinate design solutions with other technical disciplines within the integrated project team.
  • Assist in quality assurance reviews for all project disciplines.
  • Attend site visits for the purposes of investigation, survey and record of existing conditions.
  • Uphold and promote the Company brand by guaranteeing excellence in the execution of work and ensuring a positive client experience.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Company Leadership.
Requirements
  • Required to have a Baccalaureate Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Required to have a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Five years' experience post PE license award.
  • Required experience with the design of large commercial projects.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Effective written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Clean Driving Record.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.
