Position Summary

To continue to meet our customer’s mission critical needs, PDC is seeking an Analog/Mixed Signal Design Engineer to join our dynamic, growing organization as a valued member of our team. The candidate needs experience in developing devices with active / passive signal converter & conditioning circuits and switching power control / driver circuits; designs are implemented either as a multi-chip & wire hermetically-sealed hybrids, or as SMT Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA’s).

Responsibilities
  • Key role: Take primary technical leadership in the design and support of our Synchro / Resolver to Digital, DATEL A2D & D2A mixed signal converter product lines, and our switched-mode multi-phase Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) driver & controller product lines. This requires a deep understanding of analog / mixed signal analysis and design techniques to ensure device specifications are met with robust margin. You will guide an interdisciplinary Engineering team through the phases of product life cycle development from requirements, architecture, & detailed design, through to device verification, qualification, and manage the transition to production. Our legacy models require continuous obsolescence review and at times may need redesign to support our mil- aero customer base.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Graduate Engineering degree a plus.
  • 3-7 minimum years of experience.
  • Deep bench of Analog Circuit design experience in multiple A to D architectures (multiple pass SAR, Flash, Sigma Delta, Pipeline) and D to A (serial DACs, R2R, current steering, charge scaling). Experience should cover low noise and high dynamic range techniques, sample acquisition and hold circuits, Bandgap reference, Oscillators, Op-amps, Switched Capacitor Circuits, Active Filters, single ended & differential circuits, phase / frequency control loops and stability analysis. Comfort working both time & frequency domains a plus.
  • Experience in power electronics / power management (Buck/Boost, LDO, Charge Pump, Inverters using MOSFET, IGBT, SiC and GaN Power devices).
  • Analog / mixed signal ASIC design and verification using Cadence or Tanner tool suites.
  • Experience with space-level radiation tolerant / hardened design, rad lot testing, ionizing radiation, single event upset and total dose analysis regarding component selection.
  • Sensors, including LVDT, Synchro / Resolvers and Encoders.
  • Control theory and Matrix mathematics including Z domain transform for digital control; Experience with Motor control simulation.
  • Clark and Park transform theory.
  • High level understanding of thermal, electrical stress, worst case, FMEA, tolerance, aging, and design for low EMI.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as LT-Spice, P-Spice, OrCAD, Allegro, PADS.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Green Card Holder due to Export control laws.
Essential Duties
  • Develop clear requirements and specs from marketing / customer documents.
  • Provide early customer interaction to guide requirements toward more realizable product.
  • Distill large-scale designs down to their architectural elements, and develop unique, innovative analog and digital hardware design solutions. Consider & pursue patent application for differentiators that will help secure competitive advantage.
  • Generate reports and present findings to the team throughout the review process. Facilitate DFM by coordinating teams of varied technical disciplines through a clearly defined design process. Co-ordinate technical reviews with other groups.
  • Develop creative approaches that favorably optimize complex design tradeoffs for product cost, performance, feature set, time to market, and technical risk. Anticipate potential difficulties and develop alternative plans.
  • Manage support and verification activities (thermal, electrical stress, worst-case, FMEA, tolerance, aging, and EMI analyses, performance simulations, and design verification) to ensure meeting all environmental requirements for the application.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, schedules, and identify the resources to progress from market requirement through product release. Identify risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate schedule / technical threats to the program.
  • Contribute technical input, as well as material and labor cost estimates in support of winning tactical business opportunities and proposals.
  • Mentor, coach, and train engineers to facilitate greater levels of technical and professional achievement.
  • Support legacy product lines and resolve new product issues as they arise.
  • Work across departments to lead vendor or engineering outsource selection decisions based on technical performance, risk and cost tradeoffs.
