Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an Experienced R&D S&E Electrical Engineer with modeling and simulation expertise to join the Model-Based Design team onsite in support of Nuclear Deterrence and national security projects.

Responsibilities include advancing design iterations, leveraging MATLAB & Simulink, Python and HDL tools, and integrating AI capabilities into simulations. Onsite work requirement with strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience or an equivalent combination that demonstrates ability to perform independent R&D.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or STEM field preferred (thesis/dissertation).
• Experience with modeling/simulation of device functions and State Machines in MATLAB & Simulink.

Responsibilities

• Develop new design iterations and testing methods, and investigate failure modes.
• Model/simulate physics-based device functions using MATLAB & Simulink and Python.
• Prototype automated design workflows to support customer needs.
• Incorporate AI (generative and ML/DL) into MATLAB & Simulink environments and train models for virtual sensing.
• Deploy design models as on-device software using code generation workflows.
• Develop standard components with reduced-order physics models and associated test data.
