Job Overview

The Electrical Engineer will apply building electrical engineering principles, client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver Mission Critical (primarily data center) projects that meet project requirements, exceed client expectations, and meet project financial and other objectives. Working within our thriving buildings practice, you will contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability, and collaboration with other disciplines.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Work collaboratively with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics, and develop innovative and practical solutions, and meet the project's conditions of satisfaction.
  • Mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes.
  • Engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design.
  • Lead the electrical design for various facility projects, including power distribution, lighting, backup power (generator/UPS systems), utility coordination, short circuit and coordination studies and coordination with other disciplines such as mechanical, technology and fire alarm.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to assess project variables and develop reliable design solutions independently.
  • Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with design standards and regulations.
  • Participate in/lead project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Successfully manage projects and tasks of a scope, complexity, and revenue budget appropriate to experience.
  • Meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives for each project.
  • Apply strong electrical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects.
  • Effectively delegate work to production support staff.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue opportunities for new business.
  • Proactively pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in‑house and external training.
  • Maintain awareness of operational, technical, or regulatory changes within Electrical Engineering and AEC overall, disseminate such knowledge to staff and firm, and integrate it into existing processes and standards.
  • Maintain and update Electrical Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical leaders in Stantec.

  • Understanding and implementation of the principles of project management.
  • A commanding knowledge of technical issues supporting delivered design services.
  • Deep technical understanding and working knowledge of electrical building systems.
  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to develop concepts and ideas and evolve them into project deliverables.
  • Familiarity with and ability to produce project‑related documents and documentation standards required of a Project leader.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects while maintaining the process‑driven requirements of the project.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and experience to identify and manage items of risk that may occur on projects.
  • Knowledge and experience to identify and manage potential unanticipated scope.
  • Functional knowledge of BIM software Revit.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or demonstrated skills.
  • Professional Engineering license is strongly preferred.

Pay Transparency

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
