Job summary

Yaskawa America Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer for the Medium Voltage Drives Development Team in Franklin, WI. The MV Electrical Engineer will drive product development, design, verification, and documentation to advance standard and value-added MV drive products.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of development experience, HV knowledge, and strong CAD/analysis skills, plus familiarity with UL/CE certifications.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years in development engineering.
  • Knowledge of MV equipment, MV drives, and UL/CSA/CE certifications.
  • 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD or SolidWorks) and circuit design experience.
  • Experience with documentation, testing, and product qualification.
  • Demonstrated project management and cross‑functional collaboration.

The MV Electrical Engineer will provide product development and future technological direction centered on electrical discipline for standard and value added medium voltage drive products including specification, design, conformance verification, technical documentation, and enhancements to assist in achieving the growth and success of the corporate medium drive business. This role will be responsible for the development, design and transition of standard and value added medium voltage drive products to the marketing, engineering, and manufacturing organizations. The position will provide technical direction, planning and support on product implementation, detail design, certification and design processes, and test equipment. In this diverse role, you will have the ability to assist product marketing, application engineering, manufacturing (global), training and technical support in higher-level support and consulting requirements for priority projects. More specifically this role will:

  • Create technical specifications and development of value added products (enclosures, panels, power options, etc.) for MV drives.
  • Perform QC and other conformance verification type tests as required on standard and value added products for MV business.
  • Create schematics, BOMs and technical documentation for defining the value added product designs and functionality.
  • Investigate, approve, and implement changes to product, via ECO, to resolve issues or to improve product design.
  • Coordinate and maintain agency (UL, CSA, CE, etc.) approval on standard and value added MV Drive products.
  • Assist in the transition of standard and value added MV Drive products to product manufacturing and product marketing.
  • Assist in review and analysis of competitive MV Drive products.
  • Assist product marketing, engineering, and technical support organizations on various issues.
  • Provide technical direction and project planning for value added MV Drive products.
  • Coordinate product design reviews with engineering, service and training for valuable feedback on design issues and enhancement.
  • Coordinate with parent company on issues of product certification and design.
  • Coordinate with project management between 3 rd party service providers and vendors.
  • Contributes to planning to achieve MV Drive Business goals and objectives.
  • Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.

The Ideal candidate will possess a BS in Electrical Engineering (MS Preferred but not required) and a minimum of 7 years of development engineering . The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Working knowledge of Medium Voltage equipment and product application principals.
  • Working knowledge of Adjust Speed Drives, preferably in the application of MV drives.
  • Working knowledge of UL certification process and working knowledge of other certifying agencies such as TUV, CSA, and CE.
  • Working knowledge in 2D and 3D CAD systems. (AutoCAD or Solidworks preferred) as well as working knowledge in design simulation software (PSpice, Simplorer, MathCad, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital design.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution design, especially of Medium Voltage Class (2.3 kV to 15 kV)
  • Working knowledge of microprocessor and micro-controller based equipment.
  • Demonstrated Project Management Skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with a fundamental understanding of Microsoft suite of programs.
  • MRP system experience such as SAP is desired but not required.
