Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an Electrical Engineer, Launch Infrastructure (Starship) to join the Starship Launch Engineering team at Cape Canaveral, FL. You will lead electrical projects, coordinate with customers, and help develop drawings, design documentation, and contracts for critical launch infrastructure.

The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and 2+ years’ experience with building infrastructure electrical systems, including power distribution and UPS/critical power

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical project team, consulting engineers and contractors throughout the entirety of the electrical engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process.
  • Work directly with internal and external customers to determine electrical requirements/needs and wants.
  • Assist in the development of drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial type projects.
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.
  • Coordinate with the electrical utility provider for design/engineering to ensure reliable power service to critical site infrastructure.
  • Provide support and direction to electricians and technicians during the construction and activation of power distribution equipment.
  • Interact with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, LAUNCH INFRASTRUCTURE (STARSHIP)

As a member of the Starship Launch Engineering team, you will work with a group of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure that will enable orbital launch capability for the largest rocket in the world. This position is based at Cape Canaveral, FL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the electrical project team, consulting engineers and contractors throughout the entirety of the electrical engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process.
  • Work directly with internal and external customers to determine electrical requirements/needs and wants.
  • Assist in the development of drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial type projects.
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in the design or build of building infrastructure electrical systems.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems (<600Vac).
  • Understanding of medium voltage system design and construction.
  • Working knowledge of switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, transformers, building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding.
  • Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches.
  • Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions with minimal impact to business operations.
  • Ability to perform Arc Flash, Coordination, and Power Studies.
  • Experience designing for and building in classified environments.
  • Able to quickly assess an issue and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, under possible extended work hours and tight deadlines.
  • Acute attention to detail, ability to see interactions with other systems to avoid problems.
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association and International Building Code.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
  • Perform hands‑on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs unassisted.
