Job summary

Black & Veatch’s Summer Intern program invites electrical engineering students to contribute to infrastructure projects and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, employee-owned environment. You will work within the Substation functional area, supporting engineers on deliverables and analyses.

This internship emphasizes mentorship, real-world problem solving, and access to a network of industry experts, with flexible development opportunities and a path toward professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Relevant coursework in Power Systems, Motors, Transformers, Renewable Energy, Power Delivery, or Three Phase Power Calculations.
  • Understanding of engineering design principles and design guides.
  • Problem-solving, effective written communication, and ability to build relationships.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of electrical engineering deliverables like reports, drawings, specifications, and studies.
  • Assist with engineering analyses, designs, and report production.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and schedule project deliverables.
  • Organize and evaluate data, utilizing computer modeling to analyze systems.
  • Organize project materials, references, and documentation.

The Opportunity

As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch, you will help address some of the world's most pressing infrastructure challenges. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects to meet our clients’ needs and contribute to the growth and success of Black & Veatch.
You will be assigned to a functional area in Substation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of electrical engineering deliverables like reports, drawings, specifications, and studies

Minimum Qualifications

No experience required. Current enrollment in ABET accredited university in Electrical Engineering program. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment

This intern position is expected to be in the office on a full‑time basis.
