Job summary

KFI Engineers is seeking an Electrical Engineer III for our Cincinnati, OH office to deliver electrical design for industrial, process, and agribusiness projects. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure technical excellence and client satisfaction from start to finish.

The role requires a PE or pursuit of licensure, 8+ years of experience, and proficiency in Revit/AutoCAD. Travel up to 25% may be involved as part of project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ electrical engineering experience.
  • PE certification or willingness to pursue.
  • Proficient with Revit and AutoCAD; knowledge of NEC/NFPA/NESC/IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design of power distribution, motor feeders and drives.
  • Support building power, HVAC and lighting system design including grounding, UPS, and generators.
  • Evaluate existing distribution for plant expansions and add-on projects.
  • Perform voltage drop and short-circuit calculations; arc flash analysis using SKM or similar tools.
  • Prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications per contracted scope.
  • Coordinate work with other departments, project team members, and contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Electrical Engineer III plays a key role in the successful execution of projects from start to finish. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Electrical Engineer III is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed – both externally and internally. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers. This Electrical Engineer III will be self-directed but thrive in an environment where consultation leads to superior differentiators. The successful candidate will have a pragmatic and applied approach, while at the same time bringing a creative examination of customer needs and solutions.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assists with the design of one or more of the following: power distribution systems (primary requirement), size motor feeders, and motor starters/drives.
  • Supports the design of building general power, HVAC, and lighting systems. Includes the design of special systems, such as grounding electrode systems, emergency backup generator, UPS, etc.
  • Evaluate existing power distribution systems and create designs to add in additional distribution for plant expansions/additions.
  • Assists with performing voltage drop and short-circuit calculations. Perform arc fault analysis through the use of SKM or similar calculation tool.
  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and ensure application of electrical engineering principles.
  • Coordinates work with other departments and project team members as well as contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ electrical engineering experience following graduation.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) certification or willingness to pursue this designation.
  • Project experience and a working knowledge of Electrical design for building projects.
  • Knowledge in both Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong electrical design expertise across various industries and processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to influence stakeholders, build strong client relationships, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills, and effective meeting management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, and respond quickly to changing needs, direction, and project demands.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with computer technology and business software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • Experience in industrial and heavy industrial market segments is preferred.
  • Experience in infrastructure design for industrial facilities.
  • Design experience with power systems primarily consisting of motor loads
  • Experience with electrical designs in hazardous areas, primarily explosive gas and dust type rated spaces.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Salary Range:$110,500 - $138,500 annually. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
