About LiquidPiston

LiquidPiston is developing advanced rotary engine technology for aerospace, defense, and power generation applications. Our engineering team works in a fast-paced R&D environment, taking innovative concepts from initial design through prototyping, testing, and development.

Position Overview

LiquidPiston is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer II to support the design, development, fabrication, and testing of electrical systems and electronic hardware for our next-generation engines and power systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in analog and digital circuit design, PCB development, and electrical troubleshooting. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently on engineering designs while also being actively involved in prototype fabrication, hardware debugging, and testing.

We're looking for a self-starter who enjoys solving technical challenges, working with physical hardware, and collaborating with engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze analog and digital circuits for electrical and electronic systems.
  • Develop electrical schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Design and develop printed circuit boards using OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar software.
  • Perform hands‑on electrical troubleshooting and debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Assemble, modify, and repair electronic hardware, including prototype fabrication activities, wire harnessing, and electrical subassemblies.
  • Support soldering and PCB rework including surface‑mount and through‑hole components.
  • Integrate electrical components and control systems, including servos, analog and digital sensors, and thermocouples.
  • Support electrical system integration with mechanical assemblies and engine test equipment.
  • Assist with prototype testing, including test setup, equipment configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and execute test plans, collect test data, and analyze results to identify potential improvements.
  • Investigate electrical hardware failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and test engineers throughout the design and development process.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and communicate technical findings to the team.
  • Take ownership of assigned engineering projects while supporting hands‑on fabrication and testing activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic generation, PCB design, BOM creation, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience using PCB design software such as OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar tools.
  • Strong hands‑on electrical troubleshooting experience using common laboratory equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience soldering through‑hole and surface‑mount electronic components.
  • Familiarity with soldering irons, hot‑air soldering stations, and PCB preheaters.
  • General understanding of electrical controls and the integration of servos, analog and digital sensors, thermocouples, and related components.
  • Ability to independently perform electrical design work and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to participate directly in fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast‑paced engineering environment.
