Job summary

Atec in Stafford, Texas seeks an Electrical Engineer to assist in designing, developing, documenting, and testing hardware/firmware and application programs for military and commercial environments.

The role collaborates with Electrical Engineering staff to create hardware, firmware, schematics, and test procedures, while applying EE concepts and ensuring compliance with AS9100/ISO. Knowledge of assembly, C, LabVIEW and CAN is valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university; or three (3) to eight (8) years of proven experience in design and development of electrical/electronic components and systems with a registered engineering firm; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Familiarity with circuit simulator software, NI software, HMI software, and Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Design and documentation of electrical hardware and equipment using digital, analog, and microprocessor based electronic components for military and commercial environments.
  • Assist in the design, testing, and debugging of firmware.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of product and system layout, schematics, and detail drawings.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing when building prototypes.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Atec ISO/AS9100 standards.

Job description

Assist in designing, developing, documenting, and testing of Atec products hardware/firmware and application programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with Electrical Engineering staff to develop hardware, firmware, documentation, and testing procedures using established practices while applying electrical engineering concepts and techniques.
  • Design and documentation of electrical hardware and equipment using digital, analog, and microprocessor based electronic components for military and commercial environments.
  • Good knowledge of theory of electricity such as time, frequency-based analysis.
  • Full understanding of analog/digital design circuits, components, and design.
  • Understanding of linear, digital, power, and electro-mechanical components and circuits
  • Familiarity in assembly, C, and other higher-level languages. Ladder programming and CAN programs such as LabVIEW
  • Familiar with schematic capturer programs, and electrical wiring programs.
  • Assist in the design, testing, and debugging of firmware.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of product and system layout, schematics, and detail drawings.
  • Assist with schematic creation, wire run lists, and familiarity with various electronic and electrical components including mounting methods, heat sinking and location on printed circuit boards.
  • Compile and analyze operational, test and research data to establish Acceptance Test Standards for newly designed or modified equipment.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of technical manuals, ATP's, QTP's, and ICD's with Quality Assurance and Technical Publications groups.
  • Coordinate and perform as necessary the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing when building prototypes.
  • Able to communicate clearly both verbally and non-verbally (e.g., email, memos, sketches, drawings) and explain work to his/her supervisor and others in the group. Can work effectively with peers.
  • May participate in internal design reviews to convey design intent and execution.
  • May be included in customer-facing activity, including but not limited to design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and/or training.
  • May mentor other Electrical Engineering staff, and/or act in interdisciplinary activities.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Atec International Standards Organization (AS9100/ISO) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

AS9100/ISO SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Be familiar with and understand Atec Quality Policy and company objectives.
  • Understand required AS9100/ISO specific Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Participate in Atec Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in AS9100/ISO training as required.
  • Cooperate with Auditors.
  • Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university; or three (3) to eight (8) years of proven experience in design and development of electrical/electronic components and systems with a registered engineering firm; or a combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

IEEE Membership is preferred.

Successful completion and passing of the EIT exam preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, and sit and use hands with electrical equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Employee is occasionally exposed to low- and high-voltages during design, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Extended work hours and/or travel may occasionally be required.
