Job summary

Blue Origin Engines in Seattle, WA is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to deliver end-to-end electrical engineering solutions across power, instrumentation, and controls. You will work on integration, installation, refurbishment, maintenance, and operations on a small, high-impact team.

Responsibilities include developing and validating electrical systems for hazardous and non-hazardous environments, troubleshooting, and collaborating with operations, manufacturing, test, and partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience with low‑voltage and medium‑voltage systems including interpreting analyses and studies.
  • Functional knowledge of motors, generators, and facility power systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation and controls, including hardware such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Hands on experience with preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and de‑energization procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience working in dynamic, high‑energy operational environments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency using AI tools in an engineering workflow.

  • Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis on electrical/electromechanical systems and propose corrective actions.
  • Support preventative and corrective maintenance and procurement of critical spare parts.

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

Job Profile Summary:

As part of a small, high-impact team responsible for integration, installation, refurbishment, maintenance, and operations, the Electrical Engineer II delivers end‑to‑end electrical engineering solutions across a broad scope. Working under general direction, this engineer determines and develops approaches to moderately complex problems, partners across a diverse set of technical and operational stakeholders and contributes engineering judgment to the supporting disciplines that surround a successful integration effort.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop, analyze, and implement electrical engineering solutions spanning power distribution, motor/generator systems, instrumentation, and controls, along with the integration challenges that bridge these domains
  • Serve as a technical contributor on a small team with wide-ranging scope, independently determining technical approaches and adapting to shifting priorities and problem types
  • Interface with multiple stakeholder groups-including operations, manufacturing, test, and external partners-to gather requirements, communicate technical direction, and align on solutions
  • Provide engineering input across supporting disciplines, including safety and failure‑effects analysis, systems engineering, configuration management, quality, work‑instruction authoring, work scheduling, technical design/drafting, and process development
  • Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis on electrical and electromechanical systems, and recommend corrective actions
  • Support preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical systems, including identifying and supporting procurement of critical spare parts
  • Configure and support basic networking infrastructures
  • Apply and support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), de‑energization, and other safe‑work practices in design and execution
  • Design and evaluate electrical systems for installation in hazardous (classified) locations
  • Leverage AI‑enabled engineering tools to improve analysis, documentation, and design efficiency
  • Document designs, analyses, and decisions to support traceability and configuration control
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Experience with low‑voltage and medium‑voltage systems including interpreting analyses and studies
  • Functional knowledge of motors, generators, and facility power systems
  • Experience with instrumentation and controls, including hardware such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Hands on experience with preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience designing for hazardous (classified) areas (e.g., Class I, Division 2)
  • Experience with failure investigations
  • Hands on experience supporting systems engineering, configuration management, or quality processes
  • Experience authoring work instructions and developing processes
  • Working knowledge of basic networking systems
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E / arc flash) and PLC/controls platforms

Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $107,136.00 - $149,990.40

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
