Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation seeks an Electrical Engineer II to design, develop, and test electrical/electronic systems for aerospace and defense applications. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical engineering or a related role.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC design principles, shielding, grounding, and bonding techniques.
  • Familiarity with relevant military and government EMP/EMI/EMC standards.
  • Strong understanding of electrical/electronic system design, integration, and validation testing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design shielding, grounding, bonding, and filtering for EMI/HEMP protection.
  • Develop EMI/EMC and HEMP test plans per MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-188-125.
  • Perform electromagnetic vulnerability analyses on designs.
  • Support HEMP simulation testing and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure EMP-hardening requirements are integrated.
  • Investigate EMI/EMC and hardness-related anomalies during design and test.
  • Prepare documentation and compliance reports for reviews.
  • Stay current on HEMP/EMI standards and best practices.
  • Build CST Studio models to evaluate hardness.

As an Electrical Engineer II, you will play a key role in the design, development, and testing of electrical/electronic systems for aerospace and defense applications. You will be responsible for designing and integrating electrical/electronic systems, validating electrical/electronic systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and analyze shielding, grounding, bonding, and filtering approaches to protect electrical/electronic systems from HEMP and EMI threats
  • Develop and execute EMI/EMC and HEMP test plans, procedures, and reports in accordance with applicable military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-188-125)
  • Perform electromagnetic vulnerability and hardness assurance analyses on system and subsystem designs
  • Support HEMP simulation testing, including test setup, data acquisition, and post-test analysis
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, mechanical engineers, and program stakeholders to integrate EMP-hardening requirements into overall system architecture
  • Investigate and resolve EMI/EMC and hardness-related anomalies during design, integration, and test phases
  • Prepare technical documentation, compliance reports, and design justifications for internal reviews and customer/government audits
  • Stay current on evolving HEMP/EMI standards, threat environments, and industry best practices
  • Build models and simulations within CST Studio to evaluate anticipated hardness effectiveness
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical engineering or a related role.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC design principles, shielding, grounding, and bonding techniques
  • Familiarity with relevant military and government EMP/EMI/EMC standards
  • Strong understanding of electrical/electronic system design, integration, and validation testing
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Direct experience with HEMP hardness assurance/hardness surveillance programs
  • Experience with EMI/EMC test equipment and simulation tools
  • Familiarity with aerospace and defense system design and qualification processes
  • Active U.S. government security clearance

  • Ability to understand technical documents, electrical/electronic schematics, and electronic instrument measurements.
  • Ability to handle small components, tools, and equipment with precision.
